How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

Totally makes sense to compare coaching start from 40-50 years ago to Woodson in 2022. Game is totally the same

Not to mention Wooden and Smith had a little assistance to get the best players. We can't do that here at IU because we value the amateurism of student-athletes or something like that but give him four years to figure it out because that's the only way it works.

Well if you read the post that I responded to was how RMK, Pitino and Calhoun didn't take a lot of time to win. So why not point that out to others pisters besides myself.

Didn't someone earlier mention about getting into the 2020s instead of living in the 1970s? This is a solid representation of that statement. Goodness.

Did you see the post I responded to who brought up RMK, Calhoun and Pitino who all started coaching in the 70's and 80's. Before responding please read the post first

If we're "following the steps" we need to compete in the big games before we can hope to win them and we need to consistently be in the tourney before we can hope to have deep tourney runs.

You setup the culture and system to take those steps. When your best and most experienced players are still going through the motions it shows that it's acceptable. When your system is still lacking production you might want to make some changes to get it going. I guess we could wait until season 4 to determine if we can make some progress in these areas.

Having  a winning conference record would be a nice first step for some of these players that have never experienced that.  should IU be in the situation where that small step matters?  Probably not but here they are.  I Can’t imagine any other program that hasn’t had a winning conference record in 6 years thinking they should be competing with projected 1 seeds away from home but I get IU should be and has been different in the past.  It’s the way it is for now.

Just thought I'd quote the poster who said they were "responsible for IU's relevancy".

If you're tasked with that, can you and your age group do a bit better on that front? IU hasn't won much of anything for 30 years

But if it makes you feel better - what I said goes for everyone else too!

I didn't say I was what makes IU relevant but the older fans do. Once we are gone what will you have if we don't have success soon. Younger people have a lot more things that can occupy their time and a lot of things they can spend their money on.  If IU don't win then they will find other alternatives and won't worry about IU basketball. When we grew up we didn't have that so all we had was to watch IU games and luckily for us they were winning big.

We did our part because in my first 23 years we won 3 championships made 5 final fours and won a lot of big ten titles. Maybe it is time for you younger fans to step up and do your part LOL!

Just from the outside-in that outlook permeates through the majority of the IU fanbase and admin. Born in May '87 - remember just as much mediocre Knight basketball than I do elite Knight basketball. IU seemingly so eager to return to that. I'm sure the Knight years that predated me were fantastic - but that was a looong time ago

Right - and I'm saying can you all do better?

As someone stated earlier, this same group is often very vocal when "my age group" attempts to update the program with the times. Not saying all of those are the step in the right direction, but there's been plenty uproar from the relevancy group when Crean replaced music with the band, logos being added to the court, renaming AH, etc.

IU will always be relevant within Indiana.  Doesn’t matter if old fans are gone or young fans become uninterested IU basketball will always be a staple of the state.    That place will still have a waiting list for tickets regardless of the product.   Fans don’t have as much influence as they think they have whether it’s recruiting or anything to do with the program

It feels unimaginable that some are talking about TJD as an all-timer but he's never been on a team with a winning conference record heading into his senior season.

Wow, reading that is baffling. He's top 10 or close in how many categories and he's never had a winning conference record and I'd imagine will leave IU with a losing conference record overall.

I don't mind change if it makes things better. I actually think it would have been best to put money on a new arena instead of renovating AH. I think we need to have the student section all together going all the way around the first 10 rows. I just found it odd people thinking uniforms are a reason for us not being elite

He has the stats but I don't put him in the all the great players. I think Allan Henderson is a far superior player because he did many things well offensively.

As for being elite did people actually think we wod be elite within 1.5 years of the hiring of Woodson. I thought we could compete for the big ten this year and some of that was what other teams list from last year. I never thought we had a chance to get to the final four and thought sweet 16 was probably the ceiling
