Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB @ Syracuse - 11/30/21 @ 7:00 on ESPN2

IMO, on the play at the end of first OT when where we had the last possession to win, it looked to me like Lander didn't run (or didn't know) the play.  I think the play was a pick and roll to TJD.  TJD came out and set the pick and Lander......didn't use it.  They weren't trying to get Trayce the ball twenty feet out but he had to step out because Lander was dribbling the air out of the ball.

I think the play was Trayce to set a pick and then Lander was to penetrate when the defense collapsed in, he had two options -- throw it to Trayce who would have been rolling to the basket or kick to Stewart in the corner.  Instead he waited too long forcing Trayce to come off his pick and Lander ended up dribbling to the wrong side of the floor and throwing it to Race.

Does anyone think this has the potential to be a quad 1 loss for us?

Syracuse is one of the better shooting teams in the Country but their lack of athleticism is going to cost them a ton of games. We let them do exactly what they wanted to do on offense. Terrible defensive game plan.

Anyway, i think they finish right in the middle of the ACC. I think we finish in the middle of the B1G.

Agreed. That was an unfortunate cluster. I was very confident we were going to win it there.

I thought he was fine. He's learning. He's not a guy that's going to play starter minutes yet but he's close to passing Rob for me. I did get upset he didn't go after that lose ball. Think it was 107-97 at the time and Syracuse scored. In my head I thought that was the turning point...not blaming him but it would've been nice to have had the ball and extend the lead.

The score was never 107-97.  It was 101-101 at the time.

I think if X -- or even Rob -- is still in the game during that final first OT possession, we win. I think either would've gotten the ball to TJD and he would've either made a bucket or gotten fouled -- and hopefully made at least one FT.

Pretty sure he is talking about when IU was up 4 and there was a loose ball that he might if tracked down and they called it out on IU.  Pretty sure lander thought it was out on Cuse

Purdue is the obvious number one. Outside of that the B1G has been disappointing. Michigan, Illinois, OSU, and Maryland have been not so good. IU, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Iowa look better than expected...it's early. Not saying it will happen, but Indiana could be the second best team in the B1G. Time will tell.

I am excited for every game after watching this tonight! We are going to lose more games and let's see how mediocre Syracuse is later this season...I'm sure they gained some confidence of their own tonight.

I loved to see us fight through some adversity, even if it was self inflicted 25 times. We have been asking for a team that doesn't lay down and quit. We have been asking for a coach to make halftime adjustments. We have been asking for tremendous energy from our players. We played like a team playing their 7th game of the season....I'm excited to see the 8th, 9th, and so on. It's been awhile.

If Syracuse hits long 3’s like they did tonight they’ll win plenty of games

At that point in the game, can't they review it? Do you have to ask for that? ... Wonder why they didn't.

This and the foul at the end of double OT is why I said Lander cost us the game.

Turnovers.  We shouldn’t have even been in this game.  I’m proud of the team for the effort and the fight.

Going forward if we have to go to the bench for depth and stealing some guys some minutes with Trey out I would like to see Leal.  Jordan G has been awful in the past couple games.  So bad that I don’t know how you can keep putting him out there.  Leal can hit shots.  He will get beat on defense at times because he doesn’t have the lateral quickness to stay in front of his man but he knows how to play and will take care of the ball and will be in the right spots so I can live with him getting beat a couple times.  Jordan can’t even catch the ball right now and is always out of position on defense.

Purdue is so clearly the best team in the Big Ten.  And right now there bench unit of Trevion Williams, Mason Gillis, Brandon Newman, Eric Hunter, and Ethan Morton is better than a few starting Big Ten units.

I guess I misunderstood the rule. I thought it was under two minutes and anytime after that -- including OT(s).

When it gets to OT the clock still has to be under 2 min.  It wasn’t under 2 min yet
