Roberts with a career high 31 pts. in a 59-56 win over Martinsville.  He had 13 in the first half and 18 in the second.   Some extracts from the post-game story.

With the game clock ticking down to its final minute and the basketball in Bloomington North's hands, everybody in John Wooden Gymnasium knew where the ball was going.  Moments before, Martinsville senior Landon Myers had come up with a clutch bucket, converting on an and-one opportunity to give Martinsville its first lead, 56-55, since surrendering it late in the third quarter.

But with 54 seconds left, back to the basket, JaQualon Roberts received the ball, turned in stride and put in a finger roll layup, absorbing contact, adjusting mid-air and giving the Cougars a 57-56 lead.

Roberts was an intimidator in the paint defensively, rejecting shots left and right. He guarded the perimeter, harassing ball handlers on the wing. He came up with some steals that were converted to easy points.  On offense, it didn't really matter where he shot the ball from, it was going in.

Entering the game Roberts was shooting 27% from distance, but he got one to fall tonight. He was also shooting 52% from the foul line, but knocked down 10 of 13. Then, of course, the final basket to seal the deal.

Our 3 wins in 2 years has me conditioned to be disappointed lol

How is a school, that obviously has athletes based on their football success, so bad in basketball?

Series of bad coaches for one. There’s a really strong elementary school basketball program but it really falls off in middle school

On Feb. 18, Bloom. No. defeated Columbus North.  Roberts had 8p  11r.

Tonight, Bloom. No. Defeated Floyd Central 51-48.  Roberts 10p (3-7 FG) (4-4FT)   6r  0a  0s  0b  2t.

Tonight's game was I think only the second game I've watched him play so it's a small sample but I wasn't overly impressed.  Any kid that gets an IU offer I expect to stand out on the court.  Not necessarily stuff a stat sheet but clearly demonstrate he's the best player on the court and I didn't see that in Roberts.  He just seemed to be another player.  He certainly wasn't a focal point in the offense.  His ball handling skills need lots of work.

He has 15 games on MaxPreps and it has him averaging 15 ppg on 52% FG; 36% on 3s (61 attempts); 57% FT; 8.1 reb; 1.2 assts; 1.2 stls; .8 blks.

In double OT, Bloomington North advanced to the sectional finals with a 60-55 win over Columbus North.  Roberts with 16p  15r   3a   2s   2b   2t.   He committed 2 fouls in the last minute of OT #1 but CN could only manage 2-4 FT.  He's not a good ball handler and really needs work in that area.  He's quick and a very good leaper.  He likely saved the game for BN in regulation when a CN player had a path to the basket with the scored tied but Roberts made a thunderous block with 1.5 sec. left.
