Might as well hire about any random mid major coach. He's been mediocre at the very best at Providence. Even his best time with Kris Dunn was just okayish.

Just read a story, on the Athletic, where the UM AD talks about how they were supposed to have an interview with Cooley and as soon as his meeting was done with Howard, he got a call from Cooley saying he was accepting an extension from Providence.

I’d say finishing in the top 5 in the Big East, and making the tournament most years, at Providence is better than Mediocre.

Of course it’s better than not making it... that still doesn’t mean we want to hire a coach whose ceiling is the round of 32 and missing the tournament 3 years running.

My premise is that the extension to stay at Providence is the reason Cooley was interested in the first place. Not that he wouldn’t have taken the UM job, I guess, but his I’d assume his preferred outcome was to stay and UM’s was Howard.

Here is what he's done. How good is that? What's the highest seed he's ever had in the NCAA tourney? A 6 seed. Last time Providence was a Top 25 ranked team? February of 2016. He's been mediocre.

Ceiling at Providence maybe. You never know. I’m sure you’ll be thrilled with Mike Woodson or another IU guy.

Nope. I’ll hold my nose and support them, but there is no IU guy that I want.

But to seriously suggest Ed Cooley as a candidate for this job is nuts. And I don’t mean this to be insulting to you-he’s just pretty clearly nowhere near the quality candidate we *should* be considering and able to get.

This search is pretty crazy. I felt the last three everyone had somewhat of an idea. Maybe that was due to a search firm. That's not the case here. I truly believe nobody knows what is going on. Not that they are the gospel, but Rabby and Peegs get paid to due this stuff for a living. I truly believe they have zero clue what is going on. None. (I'm only on because they had a cheap deal and figured why not) The two guys I trust the most (reddit IUBBinsider and our Chris007) said from the beginning this was going to be tight lipped. I truly believe that. Part of me likes it that way but it does leave a lot of room for speculation.
