I don’t think Fitzner is a play “in the middle” type of player. What little I’ve seen of him, it looks like he is guarding a wing player. So to me, he is a big 3 or stretch 4. Just my 5 cents

No he isn't. At least Isaac Haas is gone.

You might be right, but bringing Fitzner in as a 3 or 4 makes no sense to me. And if they aren't planning on him getting solid minutes then why bring him in at all? I seriously doubt he knowingly transfers to play the same or fewer minutes at IU then he did at SMC.

Not disagreeing with your assessment, he definitely doesn't look like low-post banger, I'm just very curious to see how he'll fit and IU already has plenty of 3-4 players: Hunter, McRoberts, Anderson, Morgan, Smith, Thompson, maybe even Romeo (3) and Moore(4).

Playing devil's advocate for a minute ... one could argue that there's a reason he spent 3 years at SMC instead of IU, or any other major... I like what little that I've seen of his game, but does it make sense for something of a role player at a mid-major to transfer into a major program and expect significantly more minutes?

First off, I don't like the number of transfers throughout college basketball.  I view grad transfers a little different because I feel they have fulfilled their initial commitment to their original program.  As far as transferring to a bigger program, if there is a fit I have no problem adding them.  I don't believe Fitzner was guaranteed a starting spot or X amount of minutes.  His minutes will be dependent on his production.  He does fit a huge need for us next season and I'm excited to see how it plays out.  I could see him getting between 15-20 minutes.

It's a fair question....for Archie. He must have a reason for bringing him in and Fitzner must have agreed with it.

Yeah, no doubt Archie and the staff had a plan for bringing him in, otherwise, he'd be enrolling somewhere else... but you didn't address my point, specifically in response to your statement "I seriously doubt he knowingly transfers to play the same or fewer minutes at IU then [sic] he did at SMC". That, most likely, is exactly what happened. I seriously doubt Archie promised him anything more than an opportunity to play here - certainly no guarantee to start, or even get more minutes than he got at SMU.

Do any of those guys shoot the same % from 3 as Fitzner? That was definitely a weakness last year for us.

Fitzner fills a HUGE weakness/hole we had last year.  A big man that can stretch the floor will do wonders for us on the offensive side, even if he is only averaging 6-10 minutes per game

Pretty much my thinking. I guess I just don't get it but until I see him play I simply cannot be as sky high on this guy as some on here. I just don't see a role player from a mid major playing more minutes in the big ten. I guess I'm the crazy one.

No because they changed the system. It wasnt a condemnation of his abilities. The fans seem to think he got a raw deal even.

Well I go off the most recent year. I'm keeping my expectations realistic on this. I expect him to play 5 to 12 minutes a game and average 5 to 6 points and 3 to 4 boards. Maybe I will be wrong.

Well silly to penalize a guy for his coach changing the systwm.

I don't think that many people are "sky high" as they are content. He fills a need as a big. You can bet Archie will get him to rebound and play defense at a decent level.

Getting Fitzner to IU is not anything like Crean's "Ooh ooh, I've got a scholly and it's burning a hole in my pocket."   Archie sees something in Fitzner that's going to help the team and in the meantime, I'm withholding judgment.  Lot of time between now and the start of the season and I'm sure by October we'll have a clearer picture especially if the picture involves a medical red shirt for Davis.
And I'm with Fkfootball1 - I don't care what he's done previously, I only care about what he does for IU next season.
Why do you post stats of AAU games if past performance is not an indicator of talent?

I'm bored!     Not sure it's really an apples to apples comparison but we're bringing in Fitzner for a single scholarship year not potentially tying up a scholly for 4 years.   He's been recruited by Archie for a specific 1-year reason and I don't think any of us really know what that reason is yet and at this time, I'm placing my confidence in Archie.

A career of 41% on 3's, on over 300 attempts,  and doesn't turn the ball over.

Would we prefer if he averaged 14 and 9  out of Juco like Freddie?
