Indiana @ Maryland Game Thread 10/28 3:30 PM ET on BTN

Recommended Posts

After the last two disheartening losses here we are once again, trying to get back to the winning column. This game is particularly important in terms of bowl eligibility; if we lose we'll be (likely) staring at a 4 game losing streak and somehow attempting to win the last three games (at Illinois, Rutgers, and the Bucket game). Just like us, Maryland has been hit hard with injuries and are leaning on their 3rd string quarterback. I'll be interested to see how IU responds after the last two weeks and if DeBord opens up the playbook against a less talented defense. ESPN's Football Power Index gives us a 57.5% chance of winning. For people that follow S&P+ Rankings:

MD (3-4):

  • MD Overall S&P+ Rank: 93
  • MD Off.  S&P+ Rank: 87
  • MD Def. S&P+ Rank: 77
  • MD Sp. Teams S&P+ Rank: 112

Indiana (3-4):

  • IU Overall S&P+ Rank: 52
  • IU Off.  S&P+ Rank: 106
  • IU Def. S&P+ Rank: 20
  • IU Sp. Teams S&P+ Rank: 8

Current Record: 3-4 (0-4)

  • Good chance at a win - Maryland, Illinois, Rutgers, Purdue
  • Chance at a win - Wisconsin

After a brutal start to the conference season, there is a winnable game on the table. Need to win 3 of the last 5 games to automatically qualify for a bowl game. A loss at Maryland means Indiana would need to sweep Illinois, Rutgers and Purdue or pull off a big upset against Wisconsin.

Think it's important to not fall behind early in this game. Establish the run game with Morgan Ellison and let Ramsey throw the ball. Defense just needs to continue to play how they have been all season. Don't give up big plays and get some pressure on the QB.

I'm optimistic about this week. A win would be huge heading into the Wisconsin game and would help keep fans interested for next week at Memorial.

Like you said there are still four games in which we will be favored; win all four and we can have our first winning season in 10 years? (Plus the bowl game). I think everyone would be very happy with that finish. This also Maryland's homecoming game so it will be interesting to see what kind of turnout they have. I just want to see better offensive execution and play calling overall; we all know the defense will show up.

LEO is family building. I've got 0 problem with it.

Breakthrough is good too, but it's a season or 2 too early.

Exactly...LEO was brought on because Allen saw how divided the team was under Wilson. Players could see that Wilson played "favorites" and that created a divide in the locker room to the point where it affected how they played as a "team". On the defensive side specifically, Allen has mentioned multiple times how the players didn't trust each other to do their jobs and it led to breakdowns.

Maryland has one of the worst defenses in the nation. Kevin Wilson would be proud. So the offense should be able to play well. Defense still has to take the spotlight though. We all know the offense can easily sputter. Up to the defense  win the game.

Against non elite teams our best hope is for the D to score points

IU favored by 5.5

Not too often we're favored in a B1G road game aside from the Hope/Hazell Purdon't games.

I would take us all the way on that pointspread. Even if Debord goes ultra conservative I can see our defense creating multiple TO's against a third string QB.

I agree. I actually have faith in the defense now. Didn’t think I’d ever see the day
