Not parallel situations. Archie had just been hired and we're in the same conference.

So, this is like when you can't make a move on a girl who has starting dating a guy you know? Even though you and the other guy don't get along to begin with?

I literally rolled my eyes so hard I might not be able to drive.

Theres nothing wrong with contacting a coach and offering him an opportunity

You should probably get that checked out then.

You're free to do it if you don't mind looking like a sleazeball.

Well, you can, but you're gonna take heat for doing so.

Besides, moving on a rival firm's highest paid employee a few months after he's entered a big-time contract with a new company is not analogous to asking a girl for a date.

So let me get this straight. It was a horrible, inhuman thing for OSU to contact our currently employed coach (Archie), but it was OK for them to contact another currently employed coach (Holtmann)?

Yeah, OK. That makes sense.

By the way, wasn't Archie already employed when IU contacted him?

Personally, I think it's cute they actually thought they could get him.

I feel your sarcasm seething. Let me spell my feelings out so you can feel them seething. I don't give a damn if we were going against them in rowing. My common response would be FOSU. Unfortunately you took a four letter phrase I said and attempted to interpret I meant I gave two boilermakers about them contacting Archie Miller. Over analyze away

There is a 15 million buyout that I'm pretty sure OSU wouldn't want to pay.

I'm glad it worked out and is over, but apparently that $15 Mill  buyout didn't stop them from calling him to inquire about the job apparently.

Apparently it was thought he was the successor to Matta before IU hired him.
It would be no different then if in an alternate universe Brad Stevens had left Bulter to go to Illinois (instead of the NBA) and IU called him that same year.    If IU didn't at least make the call, IU fans would have been up in arms.  OSU probably felt they needed to at least ask before moving on to the next candidate.
I don't blame tOSU.  I would have been peeved at Archie if he left.

You just hope that Archie is as happy to be at IU as we are to have him. I hope that deep down in the back of his mind, he's not thinking, "Damn. I wish I had waited for that Ohio State gig." ... I'm guessing (hoping) he is happy in B-town, though. ... Because many automatically assumed that since he went to N.C. State, he'd want that job when it opened. He didn't. And since he was a Matta assistant, many automatically assumed that he'd want to coach at OSU. And it's possible he didn't want a return there.
