2018 General Recruiting Thread

I'm a huge fan of Henry, and really thought he could contribute on the floor.  And it's not like just Damezi "took his spot," IU has 5 brand new guys at the 6'7" to 6'10" range.

I agree that Damezi fills a role here that we need.  This team is bereft of scorers.  Now we've got a few wings that like crashing in, but no one that fills that niche that Damezi does.  And it's super rare to get a shooter that also possesses this kind of length on the defensive end.  He's a great piece to the team.

And finally, kind of the silver lining to the Plight of Aaron Henry...  His story may well serve as a reminder to other recruits that if CAM offers, you may want to jump on it.  It's not all bad that in this story, we're seen as the hard-to-get offer.

It's ironic that the Aaron Henry offer started the frenzy

A poster on the rivals message board said that the "Birdman chirped" in regards to Romeo Langford and then promptly deleted the post. Anybody have any information regarding this?

Anyone who utters that vague BS knows nothing. Just an attention seeker or drama queen.

At least on this board, the people who actually know things don't jerk people around like that.

If I recall, Birdman was an AAU coach who was generally considered a legit insider for a length of time. Not sure where that stands now and him chirping doesn't mean much because it's a whole another set of riddles.

Louisville are the cardinals. Cardinals are birds. Many birds chirp. But I don't think this is the hidden message.

LOL

Usually birdman knows what he's saying

Some of that may be old news but was new to me. Basic question is if you can only take one of the two, who ya got?

I said it when Anderson committed that I'd prefer Henry but there's parts of Andersons game that I like better, like his shooting ability. No matter what I think we would've wished we could've got the other one but are happy with Anderson.

Unless my memory is going, I believe Birdman is Chris Hawkins ('Hawk') and is the current head coach at Crispus Attucks (who just won a state championship).  Also as stated by btownqb, he's been a very trusted source of information.

Correct and he doesn't post much anymore. He used to post on Scout when it involved Indiana HS players.

General recruiting question. Before 247 gained steam as a ranking engine it was:

5* 1-25

4* 26-100

3* 101 to ?? Has major offers

2*mid major offers

1* me

Now it seems :

4* 26-150.

Am I on to something here or not?

I think it sort of used to be like that. But, to their credit, it doesn't make a ton of sense to have hard set rules on that bc classes have different levels of talent. Now, it seems like they rate players and anyone over .92 gets a 4 star. So, 2018 the cut off is 120. 2019, they clearly need to evaluate more (or they think the class is loaded) bc there are about 222 4/5 stars (rating above .92).

Thanks Pap. I've noticed recently everyone seems to be a 4 star. Lol.

Big difference from 26 to 222.

Although, the minutia of ranking 100-200 or whatever is probably about an impossible task anyway. AAU really aids accuracy by seeing how these kids play against one another but it gets silly at some point.

Went and reviewed 2017 247 composite

5* 1-30 Scruggs snuck in at 30
4* 31-130
3* 131 and below. Clifton Moore ended up here at 144
