ESPN Cleaning House

Recommended Posts

Learned a few new things today; MTV is still a thing and reasons why I haven't watched ESPN as much.

My political views are all over the place. I found Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless funny but it got old. They're too predictable on what side they take and how they form their opinion. It got to the point where they're arguing for shits and giggles. Ditto for many other shows. ESPN seems to have moved to the "this is what happened and you should feel this way about it" much like most news channels have gone. I'm good with forming my own opinion without them shoving it down your throat.

Most 30 for 30s are good though. You hear from multiple sources with different perspectives.

I feel like this tweet sums the whole situation up pretty well.

Usually they do quite a bit of analysis leading up to this. I can't believe they came to this conclusion from it. Stuart Scott is probably my favorite ESPN guy ever. There is a fine line between personality when you deliver the news and becoming boring. His was authentic. I feel they have tried to create personalities and they have failed. That led them to the conclusion we want loud people.

Stuart Scott was awesome, God rest his soul. I didn't mind all the loud debate shows when they had a good mix of them and actual analysis/highlights. Now it seems like they've gone all in with the loud people and their hot takes. It's like they wanted to turn their network into a live tv message board. Other sports networks are going to have a chance to capitalize by giving viewers sports news and analysis. A lot of good talent just hit the market.

Honestly hoping the BTN jumps on some of this talent

I'm glad I'm not the only one. You'd think he was a political columnist and a casual sports fan with the way he tweets.

Seems like ESPN could do with a little more spring cleaning! A little more sports, a little less speculation, and a lot less politics. Honestly if it wasn't for games I would even watch ESPN anymore.

Seems like they are getting rid of the people that actually talk about sports. I'm the same - I don't even turn it on anymore unless there's a game I want to watch. It's like we are witnessing it consume itself.
