Interesting thought.  I don't think we'll ever know that for sure; but if an offer was made and rejected, Glass did what he needed to do.  On to the next.  Like I said, Stevens, though perfect in my opinion, was a pipe dream; and not likely; but you have to take that shot.  At one point, he said IU was his dream job, so you have to see if you can land him.  If not?  Move on.

Exactly, and this is why all the national talking heads that say don't waste your time always look stupid. If you offer and he still says no you literally didn't lose anything. But if you don't offer and come to find out he would've said yes then you look like an idiot. You lose nothing but a little time making an offer. Personally I think you give him an offer that would make him pass out and if he says no then you did all you could do and move on.

“I don’t speak to the rumor mill or anything else, but I’ve made it pretty clear I’m going to be here,” the Celtics coach told reporters. “I’ve been asked about that quite a bit and my answer will be the same — I’m going to be here until the Celtics decide they want to move in another direction.”

“One thing about it — I grew up in that state and spend a lot of time down there. I certainly love the state of Indiana and what basketball means in that state,” said Stevens, who previously coached at Butler Univeristy. “IU means a lot to the people in that state. I was no different as a kid, but again, I’ll be here. Doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of the teams in the state — I root for one a heck of a lot more than the rest.”

That statement isn't much different than the normal coach speak you hear when they're asked about a different job.

While I don't think we have a shot at Stevens every coach that has ever left for a new job has always said no publicly before he did so. Him saying he has no interest publicly means absolutely nothing.

Come on dude, it's Brad Stevens. He walks in perpetual sunshine. He would never lie in a statement. He's too ......good.

Both of their statements mean absolutely nothing.

Agreed. They said exactly what I expected them to say in their situations. They're not going to come out and say "oh yeah I'd love to coach the Hoosiers, Fred give me a call so we can get things set up" while they're under contract to coach other teams. Even if they both truly meant what they said, feelings change. Heck, Donovan had a press conference with the Magic after taking the job before turning around and going back to Florida. I fully expect Glass to go after both of them hard. I don't expect Stevens to be our next coach, but him coming out and saying the only thing he could say in the situation means nothing.

Here's the dilemma. If you interview someone like Miller or Holtman this week, and they want to accept the job, do you take it? Waiting around is dangerous, especially with Illinois dangling around.

They have to be offered the job first in order to accept it.  If Billy Donovan is in waiting, Fred won't be offering the job to anyone else.  Still have to conduct interviews though in case Billy doesn't happen.

That statement sounds pretty definite to me.

You can say you love the place all you want. That doesn't mean you wouldn't leave given certain situations

Obviously mine and Brad's life situation is VASTLY different but the way i see it, if you asked me right now how i like my job or my duty station i'm gonna talk it up like its the greatest job i ever had and this place is just shangri-la with happy fun candy. The next day if someone were to come up to me and say "i'll pay you double what you're making to switch over to the marine corps and work at Camp Pendleton, i'd definitely consider it.

Now Illinois fans are saying their getting Billy D lol as well as UCLA and U of L fans. This is getting crazy. I will say this is our one shot at him. If we get someone else he is either a Thunder coach for good by next coach search we have which is hopefully a lonnnnng time from now or at another college. Probably UK or maybe Duke. If Archie Miller goes to Illinois and it happens soon I will believe Billy D is our guy even more. That would mean we didnt even try for Archie and that only happens if we had some clearly better.

There are going to be some ticked Illinois, UCLA, and Louisville fans.
