Alford has had top 20 defenses, over the last decade Crean hasnt.

And then he has awful defenses. The biggest difference is he recruits better. Dude is just as inconsistent as Crean with coaching defense.

Alford has had the same success at a blueblood as Crean, so we should hire him. Got it.

Haha. Alford missed the dance at a blue blood 2 of 4 years? Alford miss the dance 5 of 9 years at a blue blood? Fyi the answer is no for Alford and Yes for Crean. Lets be honest if Crean makes the dance this year or made the dance 4 years ago, he isnt leaving. I dont view Crean as a bad coach. He is a good coach, just lacks consistancy. Alford is a step up from Crean. No Alford isnt the answer. Marshall is. Back to devils advocate.

At least with Crean we always have a sense of there is light at the end of the tunnel, meaning there's a strong chance he is gone eventually. If not this year he will be gone sometime he is not gonna be a lifer. With Alford we'll settle for average foreverrrr, he's not going anywhere. I'd rather keep Crean knowing there are better replacements still out there versus taking Alford and shutting the door on everything for the next 20 years.

I don't understand why all of a sudden he seems like a good idea. He's not the good, he already had a shot in the B1G and I don't want that at IU. Say what you want about he was at Iowa, Collins is at NORTHWESTERN, and has them in the tournament for the first time EVER in a short time. If Alford is so great he could have and should have done better at Iowa. I am 100% ready to get rid of Crean but I'm not willing to do it just to do, that's ignorant IMO.

Coaching is not everything that it is built to be. You need the right players to fit your system more than anything. You also need leadership. My examples. Davis almost won a title here. Kevin Ollie just won a title a few years ago. Coach Cal's title was pure superstars. Getting them to gel is hard but I mean Anthony Davis and MKG as well as the other kids they had. If coaching was everything Izzo would have a lot more titles. Titles have a lot more to do with being hot at the right time and luck as well. I am not saying that you can walk in off the street and win a title but there is so much more to it than just coaching. Nova won last year because they had leadership same as that UCONN team. Defense is a big key too, but unless there is a guy that is consistently getting to the final four or even a sweet sixteen every year on our realistic list, it is time to just let the high ups decide who fits us the best. Btw Tony Bennett is the only guy that fits the consistently getting to the tourney and having success but he has his flaws too. As good as he defense is, his offense seems to hold him back come tourney time.

That 21 ranked defense was statistically worse than the UNC team that won it. Crean has never had a defense better or as good as the worst team to win it all, while at Indiana.

UNC didn't win it that year Louisville did. To be championship caliber you have to be around 30 or better both of them.

Does anyone honestly think Indiana high school players care about Steve Alford at all?

Alford was a good player and all, but I hate to break it to those who expect him to "lock down the state": 18 year kids today don't give a sh1t about what Steve Alford did 30 years ago.

Apparently Kris Wilkes does.

He just started recruiting better. He wasnt a better recruiter until he got to UCLA. Then he hasnt really hit his stride until last year on the recruiting trail. Which is why they are a top 10 team this year. The thing about this years team defensively, they were awful. But they have steadily improved and Im not sure what to make of them going into the dance. They could be the statistically worst team to make a final four. Their defense is better than their actual efficiency at this point. They are just playing so mich better there. But its safe to say he will linely make at least a sweet 16.

UNC won the title in 09 and were ranked 21st.

But still...saying that Crean hasn't had a championship level defense is still false lol. I'm not saying Crean is a good defensive coach, just pointing out that he's been there before when it was said he hasn't been. (This paragraph wasn't to you but I don't want to double post lol)

Tj Leaf has ties to Indiana as well. Trevon Bluiett was gonna go there but backed out for Xavier. To his defense he is half way across country so it may be a hard sell for some. Last years class and this one have some awesome players in it. He has a top tier wing, pg and big coming in just like he did last year.

Yeah he was an Indiana kid that got recruited by Indiana. I am positive he is not talking out his @SS when he says he will TRY to lock up the state. I really like what he would bring to recruiting.

Let me also go on record as saying I like about 3-4 coaches ahead of him.

This is a great question. Does anyone have an answer? What happened the last time an NBA coach was not fired and moved back to college basketball? What was the timeline?

I think the cat would be out of the bag in early April. If IU isnt being mentioned woth other coaches and they seem to be doing nothing, the media will smell a rat and go searching amd find out its Donovan.

The worst defense to win it all was 2009, UNC. That team was statistcally better than any Crean IU team. I fet defenses fluctuate year to year, but that UNC team still is the worst, which sets the bar higher than any defense we have seen in over a decade. This is why Ive been adamant of needing a defensive minded coach. Its why I love Gregg Marshall, really like Tony Bennett, and love playing devils advocate with people on a coach who isnt good enough. :)
