TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

I would personally love another Bob Knight. Although the chances of getting another top 3 coach in NCAA history are pretty slim. I understand that is the standard but ain't happening.

Tons of coaches with our resources could make the tourney every year.

So can Crean going forward 9 out of 10 years or he should be fired. He missed his on year after our top ranked team.

I'm not convinced that a coach like Bob Knight still exists. Even if there were such a coach, I'm not sure how that approach would square with today's game. Most of the games I've watched are little more than a collection of athletes, (not basketball players), many of whom are doing little more than auditioning for the big leagues. Of the younger coaches out there, I'm probably impressed most by Brad Stevens. He seems to have the ability to improve teams using little more than whats on hand. To me, that's the sign of a good coach, and one who can do great things given certain circumstances.

6-1 vs Top 5 at home
Most top 25 wins in last few years in CBB.

Question for all you Crean haters; if we were to win a Natty or go to Final Four- would anybody here still want him gone? (Say no)

I would pose the question that if he were to lose in the 1st or 2nd Rd again would you still want him around? (Say no)

Which is more likely to happen?

FWIW Coach K hasn't missed a tournament since his 3rd season at Duke.

94-95.  I know he had back surgery that year, but that still counts on him.  They went 13-18 that year.  The following year they went 18-13.  Today, they don't make the tournament because of that record.  Hell, a couple of years after that you had College of Charleston that everyone thought was a highly ranked team getting a low seed.  That is when mid-majors started getting respect.  But, they still made it with the 18 win team.  But 94-95 Duke team that he recruited and coached for 12 games before back surgery and "exhaustion" was his team.

Edit:  I don't really think if they had a solid team that year he would have taken the last half of the year off.

He didn't coach after the 12th game of the season. They were 9-3 at that time.
