TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Lol at Fort Wayne radio guy.

Says he thinks Bryant and OG return and Indiana will be great next year. Didn't mention Blackmon. Also says IU fanbase needs to get used to Crean. He thinks he'll be back too.

He is NOT tuned in but interesting nonetheless.

Billy Gillespie..

His resume was better than Creans and unlike us they didn't hold onto him for 9 years.

I was also talking future guys in case you do manage to find one.

Tubby Smith is a great failure of U.K. Basketball and he won a NC because they held onto him for waaaay too long.

Tom Crean is Tubby Smith without the success.

Guthridge? he took them to 2 final fours didn't he. And he was an assistant before. He hardly had a proven track record of mediocrity.

Deans players sound familiar. I said off the top of my head and that wasn't a good comparison he only coached 3 years

I'm going to have no choice but to completely check out if that happens. I don't want to start to hate IU basketball and Crean could do that just the excess hate for him spilling over. It's already bad enough I hate the product.

Toughness, the will to want to stop the person across from you. Combine that with a below average defensive (that is being generous) coach and u get the 140 rated defense. Same coach last year and most same players and they were 59th. Did yogi, max, and nick make that big of difference? Or with no true leader holding anyone accountable are they just sleepwalker on D and figure they will just out score anyone?

Bad Switches, not fighting through screens on a hot shooter.I cant count how many times a player ends up in a bad match up because of it.They play dazed and confused when its really not that complicated.I dont thinkits a case of the kids. being lazy as much as overthinking everything.I remember as a kid coaches telling me,see that guy ,glue yourself to him.Its coaching guys.

I didn't follow Gillespie that closely but how was his resume better?

I mentioned Gillespie earlier when talking about cutting bait. That was the absolute right thing to do. UK was going nowhere with him and the administration knew it. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish IU would've done that after year 3 with Crean and gotten Brad Stevens

His team all got progressively better and didn't rely on one of the greatest player in his generation.

Think he had also won a conference tournament not sure though

I would imagine having to look over to the bench, during play, to see what flash cards initiate your next move, can be quite distracting and confusing

His teams went 40-24 and he wasn't fired for performance. UK made it clear it was a compatibility issue. That and his alcohol issues and alienating BBN after firing a coach that won a title. He made one NCAA tournament and lost in the first round. They lost to Gardner Webb and VMI in back to back season openers. I don't think they won a conference title. That was during Florida's time at the top.

Gillispie had a Final Four and a conference title when hired at puke?

I'm trying to understand your statement about him having a better resume than Crean up to the point thy were hired by a blue blood program.
