TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Have alot of these guys forgot the Syracuse game a few years ago? A performance like that again in the tourney and crean is in the same spot he was in to start the season. Lot of work to be done but I like our position just have to finish the thing off is all I am saying

For the love of God...

Syracuse was a great team. Ranked #1 that season. What is the point of rehashing a game from 3 years ago? Other than to keep the focus on everything but Crean having any level of success.

Of course IU has to finish strong! Obviously. But it's like a lot of people expect us to lose out every time we have a good win. It's not Crean's fault this program slipped to irrelevance. Can't you be happy that IU has a respectable, healthy program? A Final Four probably quiets things for good. I'll give you that. That kind of run is badly needed.

Sorry if that came off as an attack^ don't mean to attack anyone individually! Just trying to better understand the lack of excitement around this team

have you been watching iu basketball for the last 21 years? We have had 1 great tourney runs since then and the only reason we did was so we would be tricked into hiring a coach who didn't deserve the job.i can't speak for everyone but I am pretty darn excited right now but that doesn't mean I will put the blinders on and act like everything is perfect. I have been very clear that I like where we sit just hoping we finish it off or this momentum will be wasted.

... the reason behind the 2002 run was to trick us into hiring Davis? Who was behind this dastardly plan?

not sure but I am pretty darn sure somebody was at this point. Pretty sure you know I was joking and also what I meant though

Don't know, but I once saw Tom Coverdale meeting with Snidely Whiplash at the train tracks behind the Brownstone Apartments...

Hate to nitpick, but "more capable of beating ourselves than any other team" is waaayyy too strong.

Pretty much every team has been capable of beating themselves against inferior competition. Did you see #1 Kansas versus 12-17 Oklahoma State, Purdue against Illinois, UK against Auburn, Maryland against Minne-freakin-sota? This happens everywhere, and at Penn St, while not a "good loss", is not that bad a loss.

Stu, what I'm saying is that our margin for error is razor thin, (thinner than most). This is what happens when you have a team that relies so heavily on its three point accuracy to overcome turnovers, (too many of which are unforced), poor defense, (improving, but still not great), questionable substitutions, poor strategies and a general lack of fundamentals. And we should not forget our annoying habit of mentally checking out at the worst possible times. We're the classic "dangerous" team that could get beat in the first round or make it to the final four. That's not saying we're a terrible team, just that we have to shoot lights out unless every other part of our game is clicking, (which doesn't happen consistently).

Good post, and I hope it doesn't seem like I'm attacking you for saying it.

I guess where I take exception with what you are saying is with the presuppositions that you include. Yes, our three-point shooting is a big part of our offense, but our inside and post game has improved markedly. Additionally, our substitution patterns and defense are no longer inconsistent. With Johnson back for the tournament and Morgan and 0G getting major minutes, we are a verifiable, proven good defensive team. The only reason to think that we are less than a good defensive team is the prior anti-Crean narrative and the stretch of games before we figured things out. That stretch was a pretty long time ago.

Here in Memphis the Tigers head coach is probably gonna be fired after this season. But get this.... If they fire him they have to pay him 10 million bucks.
Ridiculous situation. He's a TERRIBLE COACH!

I still remember even as recently as last year we had people suggesting hiring Pastner. Because he was young and could recruit, too bad his teams underachieved every single season

UMMMM your timeline is a little off.  Davis took off the interim tag the year before we went to the FF.  He has given an extension afterwards, but he had already been hired.

I do agree, though, that we need to finish this season off.  Don't have to win the NC, but if we lose the next 4 games......

contract extension is what it led to sorry my mistake. Good call

The fact that Indiana hasn't won the BTT before...is absolutely irrelevant to this season. The BTT itself is kind of irrelevant, tbh.

So the tournament that is at the end of the year is irrelevant? I guess if you want to ignore that usually winning it is an indicator that the team is playing their best ball of the year, look at MSU last year that team talent wise really wasn't that good. But they entered the BTT playing their best ball of the year and it carried over to the NCAA tourney. We're playing really well right now, but Crean's history in the BTT is putrid, and that has more or less carried over into the NCAAs. Hopefully that changes this year, but the BTT is not irrelevant.

Agree not for sure but I think we made the championship game the 2002? Any way under knight we were terrible and it carried into ncaa and has ever since to best of my knowledge

Let's just focus on the task at hand. Iowa and then Maryland. I'm not a fan of this whole speculation thing. If he wins, and wins, and wins deep into the tourney~ VERY DEEP~ He will earn my trust. Till then, one game at a time and see how this all unfolds. GO HOOSIERS and COACH CREAN! Trust yet verify!

or the opposite could happen Iowa st entered the tournament as one of the hottest teams last year after they won the big 12 tournament only to get bounced by UAB in the first round. They fooled me I had them in the final four

You are  more generous than I.  One year is not going to gain my trust.  Two years of consistent good play, and tourney results will be a start.

I bought completely into Crean for the first 1/2 of his tenure, the last 1/2 has been underwhelming, and I need back to back good years before the bad taste has left my mouth. :)

I think he meant more the fact that just because IU hasn't won it in years past doesn't effect this years team
