IU Hoosier41

Bobby Knight "I Hope they're all dead" comments

I can't blame him for saying what he did about the administration. You don't fire one of the best coaches to ever live. You let him leave on his own terms. And Knight did say he loves the fans so it's not us he's angry at. With all that said, it doesn't matter to me that he's never coming back. That was 17 years ago. Regarding the present, it's time to go hire a coach that can bring IU back to prominence

It has been 17 years!! No guy responsible for him leaving is in power and still hates us. I will always remember when he called the IU game and after Crean hunted him down to talk to him and he looked at Crean like he was a dipshit. I was disgusted then. Crean didn't have to say a damn word, but that was the first time I truly respected Crean so there was some good out of it. He is going a few miles away and charging 25 dollars a head. Money seems important so I don't see why he wouldn't come here. If he came to AH he could charge 30-50 bucks and fill at least half the building. I love him for what he did here, but it is time for IU fans to MOVE ON. I am tired of feeling like we owe him something. He went 15 years after that title with no real chance at another one and the last few years were not that great. It was time. I wish he retired here but it didn't happen. It is the nature of the beast.

I actually loved the comments. I don't think any of us can begin to understand how he feels, and I think saying he needs to just get over it is off base.

I dont think it is people telling him to get over it, I think it is us that people are saying to move on.

This 1000x

Coach Knight kept IU relevant. He put his life into the program and was given the boot like he wasn't the reason the athletic department funding existed. I can't imagine putting in that much time at any job and making it as successful as he did and getting tossed aside. I respect his decision and his words. He's earned the right to be bitter.
And honestly, who didn't already know he felt that way? Why are people mad that he actually verbalized it?

To be fair it's not really his fault that fans keep expecting him to come back to Assembly Hall. It's not like he's all like "maybe I'll come back, maybe I won't, wait and see!" and keeping everyone in limbo. The university told him to get out and that's exactly what he has done.

We don't really have anything to move on to though. I think people keep hanging on to him because since he's been gone IU has been mediocre. During times like this people long for the better days, and Coach Knight was those better days.

I don't blame coach Knight; one. little. bit.

He clearly still appreciates the fans in Indiana for their support and devotion all those years, but the IU Admin burnt the bridge 17 years ago and they're the only one's who would have anything to gain by his returning for a cameo appearance.

Is it possible that I completely agree with both of these posts?

Very possible. I'm not a huge fan of him coming back and making money off IU fans, but I can't knock anyone making their money legally nor can I blame IU fans for wanting to go. With that said I don't blame him for feeling the way he does, everyone is different and I'd probably feel the same way he does if it happened to me while others may have been over it the next day.

Whatever cash he may or may not derive from the fans during one of his trips to the state, is a drop in the veritable ocean of monies that he's generated for the University, the people of Indiana and countless other individual cases. Additionally, he hasn't held a gun to anyone's head to force their attendance at one of his talks or book signings.
