    TOM CREAN FIRED

This has to be some kind of parody account. There's no way anyone rational could think they know more about the game because they just got out of high school basketball let alone have the arrogance to actually post that.

How is anyone not supporting the team? I keep seeing that crap getting thrown out but haven't seen anyone add anything valid to back it up. Does wanting the coach fired mean you aren't supporting the team? Heck no. The point of wanting him gone is to make the team better. Don't tell me because I want Crean gone that I support the hoosiers any less than anyone else. That's a load of crap. I want this team to win just as much as anyone and I'd be willing to bet everyone else wanting Crean gone probably feels the same. I don't see anyone rooting for us to lose just to get Crean out of here. Disagree with me all you want I'm fine with it, that's part of posting on a forum not everyone will agree or that'd defeat the purpose. But under no circumstances tell me I don't support the Hoosiers. I will root for IU until the day they toss me in the ground. This crap where people are complaining about others being negative is just as bad as they're accusing the negative people of being. GO IU!!! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Let me add to this. If you're unhappy about something and can make an intelligent argument for your case I will either agree with you or not be the least bit upset and respect your view on it. If all you can do is scream like a petulant child then I don't have enough time left on this earth to have it wasted by your behavior.

Some people don't care how critical you are as long as you're respectful and don't act like a screaming 12 year old spoiled brat when you do it. Is that really too much to ask?

I agree for the most part. I do think you can only have a 100% understanding of the sport if you've played. But I think fans who have never played the game at a high level still do have the ability to understand the smaller parts and more complex aspects of the game.    Off base, but I just have issues with the original post I quoted because it comes off as saying we should all just be cheerleaders who don't question anything. Instead we should just accept everything going on, and act like everything is just hunky dory. That destroys the point of message boards, which is to discuss the game/s and program

There is a difference between supporting the team and being a blind cheerleader pretending everything is roses and rainbows.  I will always support the team, but I will not be the latter.  Pointing out the flaws in Tom Crean's coaching stems from wanting the best for the program, you know, supporting the team.   We'll lose Will and Evan and probably Noah (I wouldn't stay if I was him).  So we'll be adding the likes of Blackmon, but our only post presence will be Hanner or Jurkin.  That opens a completely different can of worms.  Remember how much adding Cody helped?  He was the only real difference between 2011-2012 and 2010-2011, the rest of the real contributors were the same.   My issue with just saying Crean is a good coach, is that it's not backed by much.  We can hope and dream all we want, but it doesn't make it true.  His track record says he's closer to being Mike Davis, and Davis, I think we can all agree, is not a good coach.  Let's look at their careers at the same point, 13 years.   Crean:  1 conference title, 2 Sweet 16s, 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four, 60.4 winning %  Davis:  2 conference titles, 1 Sweet 16, 1 Elite 8, 1 Final Four, 60.6 winning %   Both coaches have the one run as an exception, and as each year passes it looks more and more like a fluke.  Crean has one more Sweet 16, but Davis has one more conference title and their winning percentages are nearly identical.  Davis isn't a good coach, but Crean is with practically the same track record?  I don't see how that works.  Crean has been coaching for 2 more years, in those 2 years he's added 1 conference title and another Sweet 16 which is the only real difference between their records and it's not a big difference.

Yeah, I know. Blind cheering has its place, but in the grand scheme if you have any perception, there are always faults. Recognizing and discussing those faults is part of why we are here. Some people just want to enjoy the game, and staying positive all the time allows them to do that. Some people want to analyze the game, and breaking it down is part of what they enjoy. On a bigger level, the whole season and the state of the program breaks down the same way for both sides.    Personally, I have never been much for blind cheering. I have a critical eye. I understand that perfection is not a option, but I don't like settling for mediocrity. The title of this thread is such that anyone choosing to participate should come in with an understanding of whats being discussed, and castigating those who are participating in the discussion serves no purpose here. Any discussion that involves CTC and his coaching is a polarizing issue, and everyone would be best served to focus on making useful arguments for their case, than in allowing themselves to either take things to personal, or make things personal.    So yes, I have no problem with your point.

I can't stand the "Fire Tom Crean" stuff I see everywhere now. D1 players should know how to inbound the ball, call a time out, and get the ball down the court in 10 seconds. He has the most information about this team and has been making the best in-game decisions he can. Why wouldn't he? He wants to win twice as much as we all do.    People just want to blame TC as an easy excuse to justify our losses.

I have to agree with Dakich, youth is no longer an excuse for this team.  Especially not for that shit show today.   I've always felt youth was only part of it though.

  15. I would have to point out JS, that the Final 4 comparison isn't a good one either. Davis took a RMK team to the Final 4, CTC took a team just a few years out of near death penalty conditions there. Furthermore, Mike Davis started his head coaching career basically at the top, and has went consistently downward. CTC has at least a upward trend from rebuilding a Marquette program, to rebuilding a IU program. He has led neither to the top, and year to year success is not consistent, but I have to admit that he seems to have more going for him in coaching ability than MD did.

I said at the same point in the careers.  Davis has been a head coach for 13, this is Crean's 15th.  At 13 years that number is accurate.  The 3rd Sweet 16 came in year 14 of Crean's career, the direct comparison was just 13 years to be an equal measure.   I did write that Crean has been coaching two more years, which adds a conference title and Sweet 16.  Add those and it takes it to 2 conference titles (same as Davis) and 3 Sweet 16s.   Now that I look, his winning percentage isn't accurate at the 13 year mark.  That's his career winning %

To understand strategy and scheme, I agree, no experience is necessary. Where I would say that experience would count, is understanding how all the best schemes and strategies tend to be disrupted if the other team is talented and well coached. I think fans tend to look at it as so cut and dried simple, and never really understand that. Its kind of like looking at a battle and knowing the plan that the general has put together, and never understanding why it didn't go as planned. The rule in battle is that the plan is only good until the battle is engaged, after that its a matter of continual adjustment, recognizing strengths and weakness and using them to your advantage.    That's called in-game coaching.

Listen Betty,   Just because you played ball doesn't make your opinion any more accurate than anyone elses, be it another fan's, player's, or coach's. So you played ball?! Big sh_ttin' deal. That doesn't mean your High School coach was worth a damn, or that your own play qualifies you as an expert of college ball, game plans, strategies, or team mascots. It may however give me cause to consider your opinion on the distribution of pop corn at half time. This team stinks because they've not been properly coached; not because they're too young. This team stinks because they've got more athletes than players. This team stinks because they have no shooters, are slow of foot on defense, and have no mental strength. Consequently, this team is outstanding at making passes to other players who're in no position to do anything with it, excellent at blowing leads, and we could win another banner, this very year, if the NCAA awarded the championship to the team best suited to turning the ball over on inbounds plays. We're going to lose Vonleh after this year, and quite possibly Yogi, -"give me the damned ball"- Ferrel. I don't care who comes in next year, the team will likely play the same way, and you, (and others like you), will still defend them for being "too young", and you, (and others like you), will be just as wrong next year. Stevens' Butler teams made it to the finals and consistently made it to the NCAA with a fraction of the talent, which shows you just how lacking Crean is in the coaching department. Oh yeah, they also played a style of game that resembled, you know, Indiana basketball. You can blindly stand by and support the team while Rome burns, but don't belittle the rest of us for pointing out that the Emperor has no clothes, or in this case, "The Coach has no Clue".

Calipari as a "coach", sure.  I don't want all the other crap that follows him, WWW and all the controversy.  Unfortunately, the "coach" is a package deal with the slime.

Internet isn't the only place I'm hearing it. Not hearing a lot that think he should be fired at this point, but I would say plenty of fans I talk to are seeing him on the hot seat.

  27. Yeah, its a rough season, but I don't think that is the whole reason. I would be surprised if Crean ever exceeds what his teams attained in the last two years. I would love to see someone who can actually coach basketball, compete for titles, and has smart, solid teams, even if we never send another kid to the pros.
