X-Hoosier Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I think there are really only 3 candidates for the award. Gard, Crean and McCaffrey. Any thoughts on who should win it? I don't like Cream at all... from a coaching standpoint... but he definitely deserves some recognition for this year. Gard obviously deserves a ton for how Wisconsin has bounced back. McCaffrey I think would be third in the race. Iowa has fallen back to Earth recently. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Parakeet Jones Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I think if Iowa finishes with a share of the title it's Franny Boy's to lose. Quote
Bryan Medema Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I agree- if Iowa ties the top-line, they take it. That said, if they lose another I have a hard time seeing him winning. Not that it's the be all end all, but obviously how you finish (especially when you set the bar as high as Iowa did with their B1G start) matters a lot to people and I feel like them squandering their B1G (pun?) lead it'll cost McCaffery. My money is on either Gard or Crean. My hit on Gard is that he inherited a good time and got them performing where they absolutely should be. His advantage is Iowa's weakness (i.e. finishing strong) and the narrative of taking over for Bo in a dramatic fashion will probably play a role. Crean seems like he'd get sympathy from (non-IU) press for all the criticism he's endured and set the stage for the "overcoming critics" narrative. Quote

And he generally gets the job done. It's laughable to go with someone else just because one is tired of constant success. If the man earns it, then he deserves to be in the discussion. Or the team has over come some sort of obstacle. Personally I think Crean should have won it Zellers last year. Bo Ryan because they finished Top 4 in the B1G... again.. I think Crean could win it this year if Indiana goes 2-1 down the stretch and for once in its existence shows up in the B1G Tourney. Quote
Feathery Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Crean has done a good job but id go with Gard bc of the circumstances. Quote
Uspshoosier Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 It will probaly be split one of them will win the media coach of the year while the other will win the coaches Quote
coonhounds Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 To say it should be Izzo at this point is laughable. All 5 losses have occurred in big ten play and at one point were they not number 1 in the counrty? It is between gard fran and crean but I think Crean has to win the big outright to get it same with fran. Gard probably will get it just my guess MadAboutIndiana 1 Quote
Trish Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 So many factors.. if we lose out = not crean , probably Gard or Franny Boy' if we win out = Crean If we share = Franny If wisconsin wins out and iowa vs indiana lose again - Gard Quote

Could also point out that Izzo flat out out coached Crean in their 1 matchup. Not saying that either 1 deserves it but I don't see why MSU losing a few games removes Izzo from competition. But with Fran and Crean they still get to be in the running Quote

Had he won without him and was in a better position now I would be in favor of him getting it. Depending how the rest of season goes I may still think Izzo should get it but at this point no Quote

Brass Cannon Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 cause msu was a higher valued team than iowa and indiana and at this point they trail by a bit What do you mean higher valued? Pretty sure we were picked to come in second in the big ten after Maryland. Not sure where MSU was picked Quote
