This doesn't explain Markelle Fultz and the other lotto picks in years past. I do agree that we are no longer a prime destination for the elite of the elite. I can't say for certain why that's the case. My personal opinion is that it has to do with the allure of playing for a particular coach. Tom Crean is a good coach and an elite developer of individual skill. He is not an elite winner though. Hard to expect a kid with every option to pick Tom Crean over Tom Izzo, Coach K, Bill Self, Roy Williams, Rick Pitino and John Calipari.

That's pretty much exactly what I was saying.. Don't see a top 3 high school player picking IU over Kentucky, Michigan State, Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. Coach being one of the reasons. Winning championships or at least being in the position to win one is another big one.

Not sure where Scribner is, but I loved watching Richie Johnson, Mooney (I think) and the Other 6'8"-6'9" Bulldog in '80.

Scribner is one of three middle schools in Floyd County, Indiana. It's across the Ohio from Louisville. That team had Lamont Roland, Ladrell Whitehead, and Chad Hunter. They all could have been HM if not for grades and other off the court issues.

I saw Michael Lewis drop 45 or so on them at New Albany. It was one hell of a performance but NA got the win.

Soooo UW and UCLA have better coaches and are in position to win a championship?

Made the final ten. Along with UK, Duke, UCLA, UNC, UofL, Vandy, Purdue, NC State and KU

Kind of an early top ten for a top five player, eh?

Also notable that we're the only B1G school in the mix (unless you count Purdoo).

Edit: I'm not seeing where he's listed his top ten. Source?

It seems like it is extremely early unless he just wants to narrow it done now so he could take OVs in the spring and be done with it?

Eliminates a lot of worthless contact for him from schools he has no interest in.  Actually good for the schools that were cut - they can stop spinning their wheels and move on with their recruiting efforts.

Zach Osterman re-tweeted this top ten list from a guy named Julius Kim from "phenomhoopsreport".

An hour or two later, Kim had a follow up tweet where he basically admitted he didn't know what the hell he was talking about:

That Romeo Langford edit is NOT his final list.

Ummm huh? Not sure where the confusion is.

I think you missed the part where Michael Porter's father is an assistant at Washington, which is why he picked them over other top schools. And who said anything about UCLA or Washington being in a better position to win a championship? I mentioned, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, Kansas, and UNC specifically, because those schools seem to be landing a majority of the best players every year. Whether it's coaching or the fact that they are all consistently in a position to win a championship, or a combination of both that lures top talent, I really couldn't say.

As far as UCLA is concerned, they do have a history/tradition that no other school can match, and some recent success in the tourney, as well as some recent NBA Superstars to point to. I think that's why they continue to be fighting for the upper tier recruits year after year.

If you go back and take a look at 247sports.com 's recruit rankings over the last 5 years, and just look at the top three players, 9 out of 15 went to either Duke, Kentucky, or Kansas..

Langford retweeted it so I thought there was some validity there. My bad.

Well heck...the fact that he re-tweeted it gives it some modicum of credibility in my book. Hard to figure out 16 year olds, but apparently is a reasonable clue as to which programs he's leaning toward. Can't see NC State, Vandy, or Purdddooo. That gives a set of seven most likely contenders.

If UL and UNC get nuked by the NCAA... if UCLA and Kansas are too far from home...

That leaves us, UK, and Dukey! :107:
