#22 Indiana v. Nebraska - Pregame Thread - 2/17 at 2030 EST on BTN

Recommended Posts

Denzel Valentine of MSU has played no less than 30 minutes in the Spartan's last five B1G games, four of which were blowouts (30 minutes vs. Northwestern in a 31 point blowout, 30 minutes vs. Rutgers - 34 point blowout, 34 minutes vs. Michigan - 16 point victory, 42 minutes vs. PUke in a 1 point OT victory, and 38 minutes against IU in a 19 point victory).  His point production in that time span, 19, 20, 21, 27, 30 - 117 points.  Valentine was in the IU game until 40 seconds left to play.  Look at Wisconsin, I imagine Showalter, Happ, Koenig and Hayes all average 30 minutes or more in the B1G, and they have won 7 in a row,

In February and March (and beyond), big players play big minutes.

Denzel Valentine rested for the first month of Big Ten play. His minute accumulation is lower than almost any other player he faces, so he is less likely to be facing the long-term endurance issues of players like Yogi.

If Yogi were in the same position as Valentine, I imagine he would have much fresher legs and we would all be less worried about the minutes our starters are playing in blowouts.

I think there are certainly players who are playing more minutes and showing less fatigue, but your comparison is inapposite. There are almost certainly bigger issues at play with the fatigue of the team though. We can't pretend this is the first time players have looked worn down in February.

I just want to win both games this week! Im hoping our boys dont over look this one

Agreed. I'd like to get illinoy as well. This gives us 3 wins. Maryland and Iowa were penciled in as losses for many prognosticators I'm assuming.

The damn penn state game sticks in my craw and probably hurts us more than any other loss on selection Sunday. With all the other losses, we could claim early we were a different team, but the penn state loss throws that assertion into question. I'm not forgetting Wisky, but the way they are playing that loss is looking better and better.

I can only speak for me but I haven't penciled in a loss at home to Maryland. We will most likely be favored by Vegas and ken Pom in that game. I have less confidence in the Illinois game then that one. Losing games like the penn st game unfortunately happen to teams every year. Heck I'm still not over the loss to a 4-14 in conference Nebraska team and 6-12 Minnesota team at home cody's freshman year. That year we finished 11-7 ( guess what record won a share of the big 10 that year 13-5). Sorry if I brought up bad memories for anyone else

I think it is really disheartening that a game discussion thread is significantly lower than two fire Tom Crean threads an hour before tip-off.

I decided to remedy this myself.

Go Hoosiers!

On the positive side, this thread already has ten more posts than the MSU pregame thread had at tip. Interest is trending up!

Go Hoosiers!
