WORLD SERIES

Anybody see Utley's slide on Tejada? Pretty crappy move by Utley! No place for that in baseball.

Sadly that is one of the oldest moves in the game. They teach you from a young age to break up the double play. Looks pretty bad though. I think if you leave the basepath it should be interference automatically, but sadly it will probably never change. I've seen way worse in games Ive played in and in the pros.

I guess its gonna take someone as popular as Buster Posey to get really hurt for the rule to change similar to catchers not intentionally blocking the plate or players getting to bowl them over at will. At least the catchers have shin guards, a chest protector and some type of helmet.

I know they teach you to break it up...but man that was really, really bad.

To me it's part of baseball. There's been other take out slides that have been far worse but they just didn't catch the fielder like that. There was a slide in the Blue Jays/Rangers series that the runner started sliding on the base. It sucks for someone to get hurt like that but it's part of the game.

I agree 100% percent. If you truly read the rule book, what he did was illegal. The rule book actually states that you have to slide into the bag, but for decades its gotten more lax and you can be in the vicinity of the bag

Not completely true. He has to slide within an arms reach of the bag. We both know it was dirty but since it was a force play he is safe. Since you can reach the bag wide with your hand that's why crap like that stands. I hope they change it but it doesn't sound like they will any time soon.

Wow didn't realize the Cubs slashed .301/.376/.542 against Wacha. Looks like he hasn't started in two weeks due to his September ERA/FIP/xFIP of 7.88/7.84/5.03. His strikeout rate in September was just 17% and his walk rate was 16.1%. Those are some ugly numbers. He is going against Arrieta. No wonder Garcia went in Game 2.

It's the playoffs though. The pressure changes everything. Hopefully he gets back to pitching like his usual self. Curious when we'll send out Waino. His stuff was looking pretty good on Saturday.

True but I have to think Arrieta's confidence is sky high after going to Pittsburgh and doing what he did in the play in. Can't think Wacha is too confident after that month.

We will see. The Cards have destroyed some of the best pitchers in baseball during the playoffs the past few years (see the Dodgers last year). Should be a good game.

I am hoping it's not a good game for understandable reasons.

They will have to hit Arrieta to win this series.  We both know the stigma of the Cardinals and their clutch hitting in the playoffs.  Not just last year, any year.  We know the Cubs stigma in the playoffs.  If the Cards were healthier and you guys were getting timely production from Molina, Carpenter, or Holliday I would be more worried.  Those are the guys who are going to have hit Arrieta.  While at the same time, Wacha will have to get away from the worst month of his career having not pitched in two weeks.  For once the stigma of both organizations really doesn't scare me.  Ever since Taveras passed (biggest loss in baseball IMO since Munson) the Cards have had bad luck when it comes to injuries.  It just seems to be catching up with them.  If you guys have Martinez?  I think you guys win in 4.  If you had Taveras and Martinez?  You guys win in 3.  Unfortunately for the Cards they are the most banged up team I can ever recall in the postseason.  Which to me is a kudos to Matheny.  To get that team to win 100 with the injuries they had is a phenomenal coaching job.
