Max & Newkirk Presser

Recommended Posts

Newkirk said he's going to start jogging again for the first time since his surgery in a week.

Max:
-AH against Michigan was the loudest he's ever played in or heard
- multiple guys wrote letters
- working on his 3pt shot, saw on Twitter he shot 26% from 3 last year
- said Michigan is more methodical on offense, but very similar

It's a trend, only going up: come to IU, you shoot 3'a & you shoot them significantly better than before... Or at least work relentlessly on it all year.

Not that it will happen, but would love to hear off-the-record thoughts from Max on the difference between IU and Michigan, even down to the difference in strength and conditioning training, players development and of course coaching.

Not even necessarily in terms of one being better than the other, but even just the different ways they do things.

Yeah, i think i heard something about Newkirk not being able to practice until March. It could have been my imagination or the voices in my head.

It's probably best for his recovery. I always felt poor Mo was rushed back on the court in 2010 cause of us still being undermanned, but I could be wrong. The ability to mentally move on and learn the system as much as possible is all I'm hoping for and asking for right now.

From the U. S. National Library of Medicine:

"Outlook (Prognosis)

Many people do well after this surgery. Recovery time can be slow. Many people can go back to sports or other intense activities in about 4 to 6 months. Athletes in very intense sports may not be able to return to their former level."

I thought I read somewhere he had the surgery in May?  If so, then he could possibly resume full practice late in this calendar year.

Wicked dangerous to push it though. They'll hold him back as long as they feel necessary since they have little to gain with an early return and tons to lose.

Absolutely agree.  4-6 months recovery would clearly be an optimum recovery period and if he's our PG next season (which he is) then we definitely need to handle his recovery with proverbial kid gloves.
