Purdue manhandled us last year. Painter with talent usually means trouble in the B1G. You guys are way underestimating what Swanigan and Cline are gonna add for them. I don't want to think about playing them again.

Cline is an incredible shooter, but I don't think he's ready to play a big role yet.

even with them manhandling us we still had a shot to win in Bloomington

me too. Cline is a excellent shooter. Could be their Zeisloft in the near future. If teams have to help double down on bigs, look for Cline and Stephens to have good seasons. I am hoping he is such a defensive liability he can't see much floor. Vince Edwards is another 6'8" big with a great skill set.

Likely to see.

Hill------PJ Thompson
Stephens ------Cline/Mathias
Davis------Swanigan-----Smotherman
Edwards-----Swanigan ----Taylor
Hammons.-------Haas

Although best 4 players are Davis, Edwards, Hammons, Swanigan. If they all play together that would be interesting and a huge lineup.

The freshmen thing I understand, but we don't play Purdue until the end of the year when Bryant has gotten 20 games or so under his belt. And freshmen outperform more seasoned players all the time nowadays.

Assuming we don't wear him out with minutes and he hits the dreaded freshman wall big time at season's end.

Osterman tweeted the other day that Cline is really impressing in practice. Well ahead of where Painter and Co. thought he would be at this point.

That's great for Cline, but it's practice. He's going to need to do a lot more than impress in practice to prove he's ready to significantly contribute to the team this season.

Exactly. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "so and so is really impressing in practice, and is way ahead of where the coaches thought he would be," only for that player to not pan out in actual games during the season, I'd have like, I don't know.  Several dollars.

But I feel like that happens a lot in football and basketball because coaches have to say something and writers have to write something during the offseason to pump up interest in the team.

That's exactly what it is. Nothing but coach-speak and PR. Has anyone ever heard of a player who wasn't doing well in practice?

@GoodmanESPN: Purdue freshman Caleb Swanigan has been cleared by the NCAA, Matt Painter told ESPN.

Poo. This situation was comparable to Perea's who had to sit 8 games. BS

People forget that Octeus played a huge role for Purdue at the point and even though they have the grad transfer, thats a pretty big hole for them.

Yeah...wasn't he B1G dpoy?

@GoodmanESPN: Purdue beat Dayton by about 10 points in today’s scrimmage. Vince Edwards and Caleb Swanigan (double-double) looked good for Boilermakers.

What kind of team is Dayton fielding this year? Supposed to be any good?

Searching I couldn't find a good preview from anyone who seemed to know anything. But, I did discover that they are also broadcasting in Mandarin this year, so I don't feel quite as special anymore.
