Thomas Bryant and Emmitt Holt cited for illegal alcohol posession

The thing is, if Crean underachieves this season, the fanbase will be calling for his head. When Glass has to speak to McRobbie about it, McRobbie will be quick to bring up all these minor incidents. Not saying this will happen, but it's a scenario that won't play out well for CTC. Basically, in a nutshell, if you are Plumber, and the repairs you make continue to have leaks from time to time, your company is going to be very unhappy. Now, start showing up to that job late 2 days every week added on to that, and your very likely to get a pink slip. Crean is underachieving on and off the court. He does do some things very well and I think his good guy routine could also be a way of defusing our fanbase a little bit. Either way, this is all going to blow up in some capacity in the near future.

I still think it depends on the transgression. DUI? Failed drug test suspension (meaning the player had previously failed as well)? I think he's gone.

Another minor citation me be a grey area for the administration.

So just curious, if there is one more incident this year/season (at this rate the probabilities are high) will Crean be fired? I would think he's walking on thin ice right now.

@WTHRcom: UPDATE: #IUBB players tried to hide bottles of vodka from officers in parking lot on N. Dunn St.: http://t.co/0BvUQ9iwFi
@JennieWTHR: NEW: Excise Police say 5 people were in the car parked outside Convenient in Bloomington. Officers say #IUBB Holt shouted to hide vodka.

You couldn't make this stuff up any better if you wanted to show how low a blueblood program could go. Open container in a store parking lot just speaks volume of the stupidity of this team and all the administrators above them. After all of the arrests last year, we still have players smoking weed on campus and drinking alcohol in a car. When does the president and board say enough is enough? And were not even discussing how incompetent our coach is on the court but how he manages his players off of it. Maybe instead of buying cheeseburgers for homeless people and pulling people out of snow banks he should just be his teams own private Uber service. Our fans and alumni deserve so much better.

Just so we're using the facts, the bottles were not opened, still sealed. They weren't drinking in the car.

Crean will do just well enough this season to get Glass' vote of confidence, e.g., another Sweet Sixteen, and for this one he'll probably want a banner. Then we'll suck hard for a couple more years. Makes me sick.

I guess I'm somewhat confused...

if there were unopened bottles and they hadn't drank a drop...

what exactly were the charges? possession of unopened containers by minors?

is that even a thing??

Yeah, possession by a minor. It's a revenue generating law that says people under the age of 21 can't be holding bottles of alcohol regardless of if it's open. Because, carrying daddy a beer has to be a crime now (actually, I think there is a parent exception). It's like minor transport, where a minor can't drive a car with alcohol in it. Even if their passengers are over 21. (parent exception)

It really is.

IC 7.1-5-7-7Illegal possession• It’s illegal for a minor to possess or consume alcohol. This includes transporting alcohol in a car on a public road without the driver’s parent in the car, regardless of whether the alcohol belongs to someone else in the car or is unopened.

I get that...but on a college campus...that's some damn bad luck.

almost unbelievable bad luck.

edit: let me just follow up and say it takes a special kind of dickhead to arrest a college age persona that hasn't actually done anything wrong (yes, I get intent), when there is soooo much more going on around...

it's almost as if there are other motives from outside influences...

It's the curse of the Crean or the Creaning Curse. At least this let's us get past the Knight curse...maybe. Some bad karma though as players getting run over by teammates, fake IDs shown by the big man on campus, hookah dorm room parties,DUI's, multiple failed drug tests, million $ recruiting budgets for lousy results, oh where can we stop. Clobbered by Purdue, clobbered by Louisville, Clobbered by Wisconsin, can't guard the mop lady, no senior leadership cause we have no seniors. We thought new lows were not going to Final Fours before Crean. Little did we know he would take us to such lofty heights unprecendented by any of his predecessors. Give him another 10 year contract.

I don't believe in curses...

but...

I do believe that this incidence is more than coincidence...

it's almost as if there are plans in place to accelerate Crean's removal...by use of alcohol...

it's the perfect storm...

I dont understand the push back against the excise police. They are targeting? No they are doing their job and giving out citations to kids that are breaking the law. Yeah a lot of people do it, but its still against the law. Kids should be extra cautious the first month or so of school if they are going to drink. Im not calling out anyone specific but Ive seen too many IU fans the last few days that have been trying to place the blame on everyone but Holt and Bryant. They messed up, they were in the car with booze. Egos need to be knocked down a bit

Not pushing back. Indiana University came out a few years ago saying that they, the local police forces, and the excise police were increasing their focus on campus especially during special events.

A very reliable source says this was nothing to worry about as far as status of the two players.

Awesome. Another "teachable moment" squandered. So now we're good until the next repeat.
