Hoetzel to transfer

Recommended Posts

Take this for what its worth, but an administrator at the hs i work in came from Louisville. He saidhe knew some of Remy's family and they said he transferred because if you're not one of "someones" favorites you aren't given second chances but if you are, then mistakes don't matter much. Not even sure if this should be posted somewhere else, but seems to fitherr.

I've been saying this for a long time

   This coach doesn't covet scholarships.

He gets exited, acts on impulse and offers them out like Halloween candy.

Crean has used this philosophy from day one. He reminds me of the guy who takes a hot looking brunette to a dance, sees a good looking blonde and wants to leave the dance with her and dumps the brunette. As a coach you have to build a lot of trust with your players, however; if I were on of the scholarship players who does not see a lot of PT, not sure how much trust I would have with Crean and the IU administration. These players are always looking over their shoulders.

Name one player in the Crean era who received less than 10 minutes as an underclassman then went on to contribute as a junior or senior.

Wisky - Kamisky, Berggren

MSU - Nix, Payne

OSU - Smith, Scott, Thompson

UM - LeVert, Albrecht

IU - maybe Sheehey?

He played around 12ish minutes, some of those other players were right around 10 min/game too.  The point was we don't really develop our 10, 11, 12, 13 guys at the end of the bench.  We stopped developing underclassmen to become upperclassman leaders.  If you have game you play if not you're creaned for the next possible diamond in the rough.  Winning at a high level rarely happens without upperclassmen but always provides a "we're young" excuse.

And this is the problem with Crean recuiting only guys that are starters and guys that are going to transfer. He needs 4 years players that are going to develop into starters by the time that they are juniors. The player turnover is killing him, us and the team.

The player turnover has reached a stupid level.  Of the top teams in the B1G (MSU, Wiscy, OSU, Mich) we have cleared those teams by 7 recruits in Crean's time at IU.  I get that he had large recruiting classes at the beginning to form a team but since 2011/2012 we have 5 more recruits than the next closest team.  How do you build consistency with that?  Answer: you don't.

Its really hard on incoming freshman who were the star of there high school and sit on the bench.  There whole life they always been the best player on the court.  I have no ideal why he left and have to accept what was reported.
