Yogi Thanks Fans

Recommended Posts

I want to know the reason why he doesn't have the love for Yogi that most all IU fans share?

1. The frequent Isaiah comparisons and the fact he chose to wear his number

2. The stupidity to have a fake Id when you are the most famous face in the city

3. The constantly telegraphed end of close game final shots he takes, which I can't remember any going down

4. The on the court whinyness and the flailing of his body when he brushes against a defender, then complaining when he doesn't constantly get calls

5.some recent comments I've read of his which lead me to believe he is satisfied with less than the best, which then makes the Isaiah comparison even more irritating to me

I like yogi, I think he tries hard and is quite talented, but to say things like he is the embodiment of all things hoosier rubs me the wrong way

That is a very interesting perspective...

1.  I don't think he has ever compared himself to Isiah, choosing the number of a star is something a lot of people do.  Didn't RoJo ask to wear Vic's number?

2.  Agreed

3.  vs. Butler in Indy as a frosh, he hit big shots to send it to OT.  vs. GTown, big shots at end to get to OT

4.  Watch some of those again.  He was fouled quite often on cuts and at the rim whereas Russell or Trimble would have received two shots and the ball.  He does flail often but doesn't get the calls others get.

5.  Yogi is a competitor.  I think if you would ask Yogi or Doc Libby they would tell you he's not close to being satisfied.

I think Yogi is a great Hoosier and can land in the upper tier of Hoosier greats.  There is no doubting his talents.  My knock on Yogi is making his teammates and team better.  When you get your teammates to look to you off the court, in the offseason, to push you it is that much easier to push them on the court.  Look at the stats, when Yogi leads the team in points we don't win as much.  I doubt Yogi's ability as a leader which separate players like Isiah from great Hoosiers.

Interesting.

@umhoops: No more waivers. MT @JonRothstein The NCAA will no longer grant immediate eligibility for 4-year transfers starting during the 15-16 season.

Interesting, but graduate transfers will still be able to play immediately. Yogi could be eligible if he graduates. I like the ruling. Seems like to many transfers were trying to abuse the waiver system. Hopefully this will cut down the number of transfers. May affect a few honest hardship transfers though.

I remember a quote from Kevin before the BTT along the lines of, "we just want to get in the tournament and win a few games". Defeatist mentality

Instead of ending it with win a few games. Could've easily said and make some noise in the tourney or something along those lines. Completely agree with u here

In Yogi's defense he isn't playing with Ray Tolbert or Landen Turner.

No one else on the team has demonstrated the ability to perform in clutch situations so I think he feels he has to.Yes he makes some bad decisions, but then again who else you got?

I think what we have is a very good player on a very average team.

Crean rule and that is fact. However, him being back could just be off season rules too. Not enough info to draw conclusions.

You sure about Crean rule being a fact?

I honestly don't know but I do know that many other players were still using Twitter during the season.... Rule just applies to Yogi? Others just blatantly disregard the rule?

Sorry to get a bit off topic but it is about Yogi and his Twitter (Which he used to thank the fans)....

I agree not nearly enough info to draw any conclusions.... Could just be random timing, people get tired of social media and then begin to miss it and get back on it all the time....

I read somewhere that he would have to take summer classes in order to graduate before his senior year.

I totally agree with that but would like to see Yogi demonstrate leadership.  If I'm coaching a team my point leader is going to be without a doubt the leader on the floor.  If the team is struggling he's calling a play that is going to get a bucket.  I'm not around the team to watch them practice or see how they interact off the court so I don't know what the dynamics are.  I want my point huddling the team after a foul and saying we're stopping them on the other end, no questions.  I want my point leader telling the entire team before Halloween night that if something goes down they're answering to him and they'll be lucky to even make it to the coaches and administrators.  The team, on and off the court, just seems too unstructured.  It's great to have the ability to improvise but 18-22 year old young men need structure and a peer leader.  Just like Troy Williams, I'm tough on Yogi because he has the ability to be those things.  I hope he gets another shot at it over the summer and next season.

Apparently it is whining and pouting when you are a player on the court but passion and concern when you are a poster on a forum.

I've seen whining and pouting. Ik what that is and have done that before. That's not what he's doing. See someone like Jeremy Hollowell when he was still around or Bryson Scott when he has a bad game and Painter benches him, that's whining and pouting.

 I'm with you 100 %

.His coach needs to make him responsible and hold him to it

.A point guard is an extension of the coach.Thomas was just that for Knight.

Strong and demanding of others

I actually think Yogi tries to be for CTC to some extent but not sure that's a good thing.

Don't want to bash but they both seem scattered and disorganized while being too nice to their team.

I think you misunderstood, I was pointing out the irony of the comment I quoted.

Yogi just did an interview on TV at IHSAA finals.

He used the words, "....if I come back."

I guess he's still on the fence. I like him, but he is a late 2nd round pick if he leaves early.
