I was bored, so I compiled a list of our shooting percentages from beyond the arc throughout this past season. I used the 3 point shot only, as it's such a high percentage of our offense. I've broken them down in to five game increments, (save one stretch of six games as the schedule wasn't equally divisible), then showed the average shooting % and won loss record for each stretch.
One of the first things that stood out to me, (though hardly surprising) was the diminishing percentage rates from the first Purdue game onward. Though we had an occasional spike, overall, the numbers began to fall, regardless of the level of competition. This would suggest, since three point accuracy is so tied to endurance, particularly one's legs, that we're tired. As one might expect, the better the defensive team we play, the worse our shooting percentage. Northwestern is really not very good at defending the 3-pt. shot, ranking about dead last in the conference. If we get our legs back, we might have a good game. There's a fairly strong correlation between our hitting the 40% mark in 3 point accuracy, and getting the win. Anything less than say .365, and things don't always turn out so well.

Well, IU shot .292 last night against Maryland, continuing their overall decline in 3 point shoot percentage over the past month or so. To Maryland's credit, they played good perimeter defense, but our legs were so tired, (we weren't moving our feet on defense), and our shorts were too often hitting the front of the iron. Unless we shoot 40%, we just don't have much of a chance to win, as the other aspects of our game aren't developed well enough to compensate.

Are we even 5th best?

We're hot garbage in this tournament. We've only reached the final once, and we lost to the lowest seeded team to ever win the tournament (and that team was the only team to win it after playing on Thursday).
