Potential coaching change suggestions

Does anyone else feel Crean would be the best ASSISTANT coach in the NCAA??

I wouldn't go that far but I think he has been good and would be good. He has the energy and charisma to recruit but lacks the elite basketball IQ a head coach needs at a blueblood. Not sure why he can't dig himself out if the current recruiting funk we are in though

Do assistants in basketball get paid like the football assistants do? (Kiffin, our ol' buddy Cam, etc.) Maybe we should ask the likes of Jeff Capel.

Smart is an interesting possibility...Randy Wittman, anyone?

No. Go read most Wizards fan board/site they hate him. Even after they finally had success they wanted to go somewhere else

Excellent choice! Also, may I throw Coach Mike Lightfoot in as an assistant? Although an NAIA coach, he is an excellent defensive coach, and is a good motion offense coach. Would be of great value!

Screw it lets just get a bunch of former IU guys on the bench. Who cares how bad they've been so far at coaching

Lightfoot is not a former IU guy. Witman has had success. Randy may not be the right guy but neither fit your description

Whitman has had one good year, and this year has been underwhelming based on that teams talent and being in the East. And the Indiana comment goes to his suggesting Keith Smart earlier as well. Again who cares how marginally good these guys are as coaches. They used to play for IU, seems to be the basis for some people's argumentd

I am not arguing for any Indiana guys but would not rule them all out. None have distinguished themselves though. I think it would be good to have one on staff as an asst

"10 coaches who could replace coach Crean and instantly bring new vitality to the IU basketball program"

10. Tim Tebow. Like us, he prays; he prays a lot. And let's face it, this program needs a lot of prayer
9. President Obama. He could make us believe we're winning, even when we're having our asses handed to us.
8. Courtney Love. Drugs, and lots of em'. We'd never even notice the lousy defense
7. Pamela Anderson. I'd run harder. Wouldn't you?
6. Richard Simmons. If anyone could teach our boys how to correctly play "man to man" it'd be Richard Simmons
5. Bob Knight. Say what you will, but we WOULD play %@&$^'n defense!
4. Edith Clifford-Legendary sword swallower. Choking will be a thing of the past
3. John Wooden-Sure, he's dead, but he still has potential for a better future than Tom Crean
2. Mike Pence. Actually, Mike made me put his name here under the threat of losing my job. And I live in Minnesota!
1. Brad Stevens. He's the bespectacled savior, the wunderkind, the new John Wooden. Anyone who can make the Celtics look even remotely competent, and take Butler to the final four, twice, has my vote. We need to do whatever it takes, however much it takes, to convince him, then land him. It likely won't happen, but it's what should happen.

A+ material. Especially 10, 9, 6, 3

I'm not even saying I'm against an IU guy. My issue is, none of the options are any good. Woodson's offensive scheme is horrifying. It was either give Melo the ball and get out of the way. Or the same with Joe Johnson and Josh Smith in Atlanta. Wittman is much the same with John Wall, though they draw up a good amount for Beal. And the only thing remarkable about Smart's tenures was how much the Jimmer fans hated him and thought he had it out for him.

If we're going the NBA route outside of Stevens, then I'd toss in Vogel. It will never happen, but that dude would turn our defense around in a hurry. He'd probably get a Epke Udoh type senior year out of HMP defensively. While at the same time turning JBJ and Williams into solid defensive guys as long as they were under him. Again it would never happen, but he is one of the few NBA guys who could probably excel in college

I wouldn't be opposed to having them as an assistant. But as a head coach, the best we could probably get is a marginal upgrade from Crean

I think they would be more like an unproven assistant. You don't really know until they have a shot at the college level. I would not have them as my top choices at all.
