OT: Did Calbert Cheaney Party a lot while in the NBA?

Recommended Posts

So I saw this article on Yahoo referencing how J.R. Smith's shooting %s having improved since jumping to Cleveland, due to, as J.R. put it:  I think this is the best situation for me, 'cause there's nothing but basketball. There's nothing you expect but basketball. There's nothing, there's no going out, there's no late nights

The article went on to mention that J.R.'s Smith shooting percentages tend to drop in Sunday's games, 42% to 39%, and speculated that partying may have something to do with it.  Taking things even further, Harrison Chase at Harvard Sports Analysis Collective created a "party score" where he analyzed the change in a player's Sunday shooting %.  He looked at all NBA players that have played since 1974.  Full article, and methodology can be found here:

Anyways, guess whose number 3 on the list..........Calbert Cheaney!  Now, I personally don't believe Calbert was a partier, but it's still a fun read even if the results are a bit wacky.

Anyone know if Calbert actually did party a lot in college?  Or better yet, have an actual party story involving Calbert??

There is something seriously wrong in that table.  I don't know these numbers by heart, but I'm pretty sure Bill Walton made more than 241 field goals in his NBA career.  That just seems like a pretty paltry number for a Hall of Famer.

Yeah, he definitely did.  241 was his total for his 2 seasons in Boston, his career total was 2552.

Calbert Cheaney partying too much?! I doubt it...

True story; Calbert actually got RMK to stop cursing around him. Coach was going off a profanity laced tirade and Calbert calmly told him something along the lines of, "Coach, I understand you're angry at my mistakes, but I want you to tell me without cursing because it offends my Christian values."

wow. Awesome. Crean did the same thing for Zeller and Jordy apparently.
