To some degree I feel them not working hard is Creans fault. Judging who does and does not have a good work ethic is his job. A miss every now and then on that matter is ok but he gets paid rather well to make those decisions.

I dont agree at all. You can't make people do something. Crean is allowed to control them during practice, but his hands are tied after that practice ends. He can't make someone become a gym rat. Thats not just Crean but that is all college coaches. There are highly touted kids that end up being nothing in college. I can see where Crean would get the blame. But those coaches have to trust their gut feeling on kids. They don't get to be around them 24/7 before offering them. But going back to that year with Hanner and Jeremy. If people would've had predicted that Hollowell would've been a bust and that Hanner would be playing like he is, they would've thought that person was crazy.

I understand Crean only has so much control once they get to IU. you're right in that he cannot turn them into gym rats. My concern is his judgement concerning them before they get to IU.

I kinda feel that he fell in love with what everyone else was saying and felt the need to conform to popular opinion rather than trusting his personal judgement.

I don't think so. Jeremy was one of the best players in the state. Hanner was one of the best athletes in the country! Had they not signed with IU, some other big school would've made the same mistake

The coach is ultimately responsible for the culture of the program. He's gone from having a group that wanted to get better as a team to a group that wanted to reap the rewards from the previous group. This group won't be elite until the 365 day players get the others in Cook Hall.

I thought Hollowell would've been a lot better than he was, but with Hanner I'm not the least bit surprised and wouldn't have called anyone crazy.  I watched him play at LaLu and aside from one play where he flashed his athleticism he literally did nothing, I knew if he was going to pan out it was going to be a LONG road.

I was thrilled when he committed, because I don't seen him play all I had seen were highlight tapes and those can make pretty well anyone look good.

What's funny to me is that 2012 is always cited as the biggest bust recruiting class, yet two of the biggest busts from that class Hollowell and Patterson, are Indiana kids. If they had signed elsewhere, everyone would have gotten on their soapbox about Crean not locking down the state. Hanner technically was an Indiana kid too, but to a lesser extent.

Now I think this years group are 365 players. At least JBJ and Rob Johnson are. I think last years class weren't right off the bat but I think Troy, Devin, and Collin are definitely in that group of busting their tails. This group is a lot better than last years

Exactly what I was trying to say. If we had not gone after Hollowell and Patterson we would've been hearing how Crean "doesn't recruit Indiana kids" and since they did come its Creans fault that they didn't turn out as expected.
