This may sound like blasphemy to some---but I don't rank that IU team as one of the all-time greats.

Jordy was defensively limited and injured----Yogi was young----Cwat played hard in spurts---and Zeller was a little weak and soft around the rim.

No gripes with Vic.

They were better collectively then they were individually----playing as a team was their strength.

But I have seen much better teams talent-wise that did not make it past the sweet 16.

I will agree with this entire post and then question why that was? Coaching?

I think to get back on track we need to win all these next three games at least. I think how this team responds saturday may tell us what to expect the rest of the year. If we come out great we have the confidence to overcome a loss like Msu but if we r bad again it could b tough from here on.

I think he meant the year before, when they won it all with some of the same players.

I thought that too but it wasn't very clear what he meant.  Losing Shane Battier from 2001 made a difference for that team but they were still loaded.  Maybe the most loaded team up until this year's UK squad.

In my opinion IU upsetting Duke in 2002 was a way bigger upset than Syracuse upsetting IU in 2013.

I think so too.

I rank that as one of IU's all time greatest upsets!

Samsung was the coach when Tyler was recruited, considering the behind the scenes s*** storm that was our program at the time it's not hard to see why he didn't come here.

Someone with inside information can clear this up----but I always heard Tyler wanted to come to IU----he was just not sure he fit in with about half the team ---and his parents were smart enough to know storm clouds were gathering over Bloomington/Sampson.

They lost in the sweet 16 to IU.

I wish I meant the year before.... I appologize but apparently I have been living a lie in my head for the past 12 years..... I swear I thought that game when we beat them was in the Final Four and sent us to the Championship game... I did not remember the Kent St or Oklahoma games from that year....

You are correct sir... that team should be considered a big underachiever (using the sweet 16 logic)...

I re-watched that game and the reason I don't consider that Duke team the most underachieving team is because of how they played that game.

If duke had shown up and gotten blown out and looked embarrassing on the floor, (like they had never seen a zone) then that's a different story.

To get back on topic...

In order to make the tournament it is looking like the Hoosiers will need to win 10 of the final 16.  I will break those next 16 into four 4 game segments:

First four: vs. OSU vs. PSU @Illinois vs Maryland

We need to win 3 of 4, not important which 3 just need 3 wins

Second Four: @OSU @Purdue vs Rutgers @Wisconsin

The toughest remaining stretch.  If we win two it would be HUGE but I think we go 1-3

Third Four: vs. Michigan @Maryland vs. Minnesota vs. Purdue

Very important stretch.  Have to win 3 of 4.

Fourth Four: @ Rutgers @Northwestern vs. Iowa vs. MSU

Again you have to win 3 of 4.  Our two easiest road games remaining.  Win those two and split the final 2 at home.

There you have it.  Our road to the tourney.  It would put the Hoosiers at 21-10 (11-7).  Thoughts?

4-0 through the first 4!  On to the next

We are definitely ahead of where most of us thought we would be this year.

We need to win 1 of the next 4 road games----at O$U--at Purdue--at Wiscy---and at Maryland.

But---if we could win 2 or more of those---we are building toward a special//title contending season as the second half of the Big Ten is easier---we will be favored in our final 6 games.

This is fun!

With the "Second Four" Complete we are now 5-3 halfway through these final 16 games.  Pretty good and right on point to where we needed.  The "Second Four" was always going to be the toughest stretch and winning even 2 of those games was a longshot, such is life on the road in the B1G.

Moving on we need to win 5 of our final 8, which is extremely doable.  Outside of Maryland there's no reason we shouldn't be thinking we are the favorites with every game remaining.  This team has a run in it.  There's a month left in the season.

Feel free to sit around and sulk about what you think Indiana should be, continue to talk about why we lost to Syracuse and how we don't act like an elite program.  There's plenty of threads around here to do that and act like you're Skip Bayless on First Take with your hot takes on the IU program's future.

But in reality we have a shot at finishing top 3 in the conference and securing a top 6 seed in the tournament.  It is a total crapshoot from there and I like this team's chances in the tournament.

So what is everyone's prediction on remaining games?

Mine is 6-2 with losses at Maryland and at home to Iowa.  We finish the season strong with a big win over MSU.  We also beat Purdue by more than they beat us.

Can't like the bottom portion of this enough. Well said. For your first part, we're still on pace after going 4-0 in the First Four. Let's finish strong!

There's an entire offseason to debate the state of the program and whether a move should be made.

We're about to begin a HUGE 8 game stretch where this team can make some major noise nationally entering the tourney.

Anyone else see where we've played the 2nd hardest conference schedule in B1G so far. And we've come out of it relatively healthy (once Hanner comes back) and set up to get a top 8 seed in the tourney.

Sunday sets the tone. Assembly better be rocking for these kids because it's in this game where we get our mojo back.

This michigan game couldn't b bigger. We need a good game just to prove we r still capable as I am worried about the morale of the team. If we lose this one then I am officially worried about the rest of the season. I understand people saying we r still ok and these losses were expected but to me it is how we lost and looked.
