IU vs Grand Canyon game thread

Recommended Posts

I attended the game and have to say it was just really boring. Wasn't really any defense played, but against a bad team we can get away with it. Best part was the student section singing Christmas songs while Grand Canyon took free throws.

What was being chanted during one of our free throws? I don't remember whose it was, first half though. Just that it was surprising.

If we were worried about SOS we would schedule harder cupcakes. Muffins. Teams we should be able to beat that aren't sub-300, the Eastern Washingtons, the Stephen F. Austins, Valpo, Hofstra. The risk there is that it looks terrible if they beat you, but at least you're ready.

Only 4 turnovers which is the lowest ever for Tom Crean in a pretty fast paced game. In a he like this it looked like Crean was jist letting them work on the transition game at times.

Who is this Perea guy and will he stay long? Cupcake or not. That face up drive to the hoop was a whole new hanner. This should be very good. I like confident Hanner.

Max is looking better. Decent rebounder and seems to have good block timing as well.

I'd have to go with Hanner as MVP tonight.

He is playing much harder and more inspired-----offensively he is becoming a threat and I saw some improvement in both defense and rebounding tonight.

Remember---this season is the first he's gotten any real minutes and he is improving literally every game.  He could be solid by tourney time.

Stan hit free throws? wow.
All joking aside he has turned into this years Jeremy Hollowell. He looks bored out there, he doesn't seem to try and when he gets to the rim he just seems to find the most awkward way to just throw the ball at the rim, but then again so does Troy. I don't really think it has anything to do with confidence. I just honestly think he's not that good. He can play decent D but thats it. He can drive to the bucket well, but lacks control and can't finish. Cant shoot period. He doesn't bring much to the table

He is absolutely not Jeremy Hollowell. Stan actually looks like he gives a crap. He's trying to do too much and doesn't understand that even though he's technically a veteran on the team, some of these freshman are better than him right now. He needs to learn to take the back seat again.

His body language just looks like Hollowell's to me. No expression (except when he shoved Holt during a timeout of the Louisville game). Im all for supporting players on the team but its frustrating that he is still playing cause he doesn't really add anything.

I am looking forward to seeing even more progress as we head toward conference.

The lack of turnovers alone for such a fast paced game was very good to see----and Crean is stressing he wants us to play very fast.

Speed is one weapon we have and I am glad we are looking to exploit it while also valuing the ball.

I am waiting to see if we will be installing a pressing defense at times when the Kids get up to speed on D---could be a very effective weapon as well.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Some of these guys r the worst defensive players ever to wear an Indiana uniform. IMO

In my 31 years, this has to be the worst defensive team that I can remember at IU! That also includes CTCs first couple of seasons. At least those kids "tried" to play defense as well
