Holt vs. Hanner

Any chance Holt ends up taking playing time away from Hanner this season? I know the sample size was small but Emmitt seems to have an awareness on the court that Hanner as a junior still lacks. Thoughts?

This seems extremely premature. I mean you're basing this off of Holt playing for 5 minutes...... against Lamar. If he continues to perform, and perform against better competition, then sure. But, yeah performing against Lamar doesn't mean much.

Well true as I stated the sample size is small so far. I would say that Hanner's lack of performance so far has opened the door for Emmitt. Having watched Hanner since high school I can safely say Emmitt is light years ahead of where Hanner was as a frosh in terms of footwork, soft hands and overall basketball IQ.

Instead of the 4 guard + Troy experiment I would pick Holt every time.How about this crazy idea?Two bigs on the floor at the same time!

I know it takes away from the cutting and kick outs somewhat but it also enables us to defend the rim.In certain situations that is more Important than scoring..

I get where it's coming from. Hanner has not done well as of late. Emmitt played well, but understandably was a little lost. He will get there, but was definitely disappointed he didn't play more.

Where you been? Yogi donates on the interior! Hanner and Yogi, and Yogi gets more rebounds and steals. Where have you been ;)

if he continues to play only one big it seems to me that we are going to have an extremely difficult time recruiting bigs. They are going to know that playing time will be hard to come by.

I think his ideal 'frontcourt' would be a Zeller at the 5 and a TWill/CWat at the 4.

I agree with that. The only problem is,Zellers don't come along very often(and that might become more infrequent if they don't get any help), and I don't think TWills are really big/strong enough at the four to get a team to a championship(and if they see they are going to be frequently matched up against much bigger guys they might come along more infrequently as well)!

I don't know whether Holt is better than Hanner right now it's just that what I've seen of Hanner doesn't reassure me he's going to be able to compete at s high level!

Definitely want to see more Holt----he did some things Hanner can't do in his first few minutes on the court. 

 

But I agree---sample size is still too small to know for sure.

I still believe Hanner can get better as the season goes on. So i think he should definitely still get the bulk of the minutes at the 5. Though I will say the first man in for Hanner should be Holt as he clearly seemed a cut above April and Priller at the moment

Wouldn't mind seeing a lineup of yogi, jbj, Twill, holt and Hanner for 4-5 min per game.
