No Holt?

Whats the deal here? I remember the countless articles, board posts concerning this kid and how he would come in and immediately be a player...he sat like April...Hanner is obviously going to be ineffective in the Big Ten and we are not bringing Holt in to spell him, AT LEAST? Hartman is better than Holt at this point? Someone make me understand....We barely survived against an SMU that is nominal at best and without its best player...Holt should be getting some time...

We didn't throw a freshman into a close game against experienced big men when he hasn't played a single minute of college basketball. I would assume we see him fairly often during the rest of the cupcake games.

Gee, could not be much worse than 29 minutes , ZERO REBOUNDS, 1 turnover and 3 points for HMP....This kid was supposed to be ready to come in and help team immediately...I am not sure how he could have performed much worse than Hanner inside....

The kid had either 13 or 16 deflections!  And he took two tremendous charges - give the kid credit for what he did!

He did have that but he also went for every ball fake shown to him resulting in easy buckets inside on the weak side of the rim with no help coming.That's really concerning to me.We need another big body to step up.

I find it hilarious that there tends to be this jump to personal offense when criticizing any part of the team...I am not saying Hanner is a horrible person just because he is just not that great at his position....Lets have some perspective. We have Holt and April sitting on the bench with scholarships..They were brought in late because they were supposed to be ready to jump right in and contribute. If that is not the case, then maybe Crean should do some evaluation of his recruiting process. Are we going to have another Jurkin or two? Holt's awesome wingspan does us no good on the bench unless we are going for most impressive clapping from the bench award....

Hanner didn't have the best day, but he did do a few good things. I doubt Holt was ready for this type of game. I would have liked to have seen him in there for a few minutes, but Coach didn't want to put him in that situation.

I understand, but we got a W, and that's what matters :)

That's always been Crean's #1 go-to stat, deflections go a long way in positively affecting a game

This is a legit concern, but to diminish the win because Holt didn't play is a bit much. SMU isn't a nominal team, they just cant defend perimeter oriented squads effectively yet. I still like SMU to make the tourney and this win looks nice for a March resume...with or without Holt.

Nobody is trying to diminish a win but guess what, thats what a coach will do...If I beat up a 3rd grader, I am not going to go around pretending I am Floyd Mayweather....perspective....I was simply trying to get an opinion on why the huge amount of positive info coming in about Holt before he committed and then nobody seems to be asking why he does not play in a game where obviously, if we believed the hype ( which I did), we could have used him...that's all....

Maybe cause the kid accidentally hit his friend with his car and he's not ready to play D1 b-ball yet? I really have no idea, but It could be multiple different things....

 

I agree we're going to need Holt this year and I would have loved to see him play yesterday, but it's only one game, so I'm going to wait and see on Mr Holt.

 

I do understand your concern, because we're going to need help down low. I thought HP played better than his overall stats, but he is going to have to do better hitting the boards... or we're in trouble.

I also would have liked to have seen Holt get in and get his feet wet but I completely understand why he didn't see the floor. A freshman that has been through what he's been through the past few weeks is probably best to leave on the bench in a game like last nights. You can guarantee he will get some PT in tomorrow's game and I think quite a bit of it.
