Was just thinking of this yesterday as Devils advocate.

Indiana finishes 18-16. Losses it's 3 most "talented" players and replaces them with middle ranked recruits. Yet, the fanbase (myself included) is expecting a tournament team and a decent year.

Are we crazy? On paper it makes zero sense. My explanation to this madness is twofold. 1. The talent hurt as much as it helped at times due to selfishness and mixed goals (winning vs "showing out").

2. The team vastly underperformed it's talent in large part due to coaching and in small part due to chemistry, mojo, lack of momentum, and maybe just giving up at times.

Boy, I hope I'm right and not just looking through Crimson colored glasses because on paper there is little reason to believe we will have a great/good year.

IMO, you forgot an extremely important component of that 18-16 record:

Yes, we lost our three most talented players from last year, but that 18-16 record was the product of a steady slide during the season that occurred after the loss of by far our best player, OG (especially defensively). OG also missed almost all of the Ft Wayne loss with stomach flu prior to his knee injury.

So, while we sucked last year, we really didn't lose as much from our suckfest as it might initially seem like. And, we don't just gain three mid ranked freshmen, we also gain Collin Hartman.

12-5 with OG, 6-11 after he got hurt. No doubt some really bad losses before he got hurt, but also some very good wins.

There are four main reasons why I think next year will be much better in spite of losing our top three players.

1) Leadership. Gone will be the "everyone is a leader" days. I think Collin will be the leader of our team and I think he'll do a great job at it.

2) Defined Positions. We will no longer play "positionless" basketball. Our players will know their roles which will help them do them well

3) Defense. Our staff seems to be instilling the mentality that this will be a tough, nasty team that plays physical defense. This will help make up for the offensive firepower we lost

4) Accountabilty. I think Archie will hold players accountable for their mistakes and I don't think he will play favorites. This should make our players value the ball and cut down on turnovers. They won't be as sloppy if they know they'll get benched for it

5) Mathematics We only lost our top 3 players. And, when it comes to most of the conference season, our top 2.

Apparently nothing in Braxton Beverly's skill set that appeals to Archie.

From NextUpRecruits:  Schools that have inquired about 4 star PG Braxton Beverly:  Maryland, Clemson, NC State, WKU, VCU, UMass

4 star?
