Multiple sources have told DawgSports that University of Georgia officials are looking into firing Head Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Crean for cause this evening after he failed to report a physical altercation between two of his assistants to university officials.

News of the incident was reported to HR by someone other than Crean, which is a violation of his contract and could allow Georgia to fire Crean without having to pay his buyout of $3.6 million. Sources told DawgSports that the university was building Crean’s firing packet as of 9:00 EST on Friday night.

The physical altercation occurred between assistant coach Wade Mason and director of player personnel Brian Fish at halftime of UGA’s game against LSU in Baton Rouge on Wednesday.

Crean’s fourth UGA team is 6-20 on the season and 1-12 in conference play after he was hired on March 15, 2018. His current annual salary is $3.2 million a season.

Lol…

They we’re going to fire him anyway and now Georgia sees a sliver of a path to doing so for cause, thereby avoiding the buyout.

Mark my words…if he gets fired here comes either the compromise buyout settlement, or the lawsuit by Crean.

Yeah…that’s basically Tennessee catching themselves cheating to fire Pruitt. You do not fire a coach for that in a vacuum. SEC is a wild place lol.

Yup.

And while Tommy Basketball is a pious man who says he is only focused on basketball and faith, I betcha his agent and his lawyer have their eyes on different prizes.

That stinks.  I really wish things would have worked out for him at UGA.

Their prize will sure make heading back to the TV studio a much easier pill to swallow.

He’s very good in that role.

Wait, wait, wait, are you suggesting that UGA wouldn’t be showing Kirby Smart the door?
You’re such a cynic.

So true!

He’s as much a quirky showman as a coach.

College basketball is searching for the next Purdue Person Vitale—Tom could be that guy.

Zero chance. He doesn’t have an iota of the charisma of Purdue Person Vitale. He’s good as a color analyst, but a Dickie V type, never.

His performance at Georgia reinforces our move from him in a way. It also indicates how interesting sports are. Get the right players, you win. Get the wrong ones you lose. Creans coaching hasn’t declined. It’s always pretty much sucked. But he’s a salesman. Wade. Wins. Zeller/Oladipo. Wins. Mostly everyone else. Losses.

I want a coach that knows what he needs and wins in spite or because of it. Doesn’t need a GOAT. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’d like a coach that can get GOATs, but I’d rather a coach that just finds ways to win regardless. Or both.

Woodson isn’t that. In year 1. I’ve got 1 foot out the door unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat. Soon.

I am kinda surprised he didn’t do better there.

Dave Pasch with an early contender for vapid analysis of the day in the Illinois-MSU game. Illinois comes out of halftime and runs their standard spread action that results in a driving layup by Granderson. They probably run it 20 times a game. And Pasch breaks out, “Wonder if that was a called play?”  Wow.
