I seem to recall a few folks saying they heard "things" about Beard during our last coaching search which led them to believe he would not be considered an option for IU. But no one would give specifics. Most people just assumed he was a lock for Texas and that was that but now I am wondering if this was the sort of "thing" they were talking about. I don't know... I just find it interesting.

I always thought it was a little weird that it appeared IU had no interest in Beard as coach because he seemed to be a good fit on several fronts. However, with this news, I am very glad we went with Woody. If the IU search committee uncovered a few potential "red flags" that caused us to go in another direction then good on them. IU certainly doesn't need someone like that as the head basketball coach.

Yes. I think Rabby said something about IU wasn't looking at him. Maybe even Chris. I'm not sure. AD's know more than we do as people. Guys a great coach...but this is not good and there's no place for this.

Anyone know who the victim is? Someone eluded to his GF but do we know? If her or one of his children then be gone forever dude. He gets a pass from me if say daughter's boyfriend was attacking her and Beard went after him. I'd choke a dude that attacked one of my girls.

On the Texas rivals board, someone is saying it's his daughter's boyfriend. So not sure.

Everything has said family member. Doubt it'd be a child's significant other if that's the reported victim

HoosierHoopster is the guy I'm listening to on this one.

Looks like in Texas a third degree felony carries from 2-10 years, but it could be pled down. Without a plea down to a misdemeanor? Some states have mandatory minimums, and some allow the sentencing judge to deviate.

Hey HH - in Texas is that a min/mand or can the judge sentence down on a felony?

What if the family doesn't want to press charges?

or not, I stand corrected possibly. Either way. He's gotta be gone

I've read it's his g/f more often but did read one person who says it was the daughter's boyfriend. So who knows for now but I'm sure we'll find out soon.

Cmon now. There are a lot of situations if it is his daughter's boyfriend, where no.... no he shouldn't be.

Again, if it is his daughter's bf.

Admittedly hadn't read any of the reports just what's shared here. No clue on how old his daughter is. Wasn't sure if it was a minor or not he assaulted

Does he if the scenario I described was the case? Not sure if other's here with daughters share my thoughts but you'd have to keep me from killing a mf'er if he was beating up on my daughter.

Story breaks - people jump to conclusions without knowing the facts.

This is not to downplay domestic assaults or choking a MFer if that is the case. Choices have consequences but due diligence is needed to assess and analyze. If he was in the wrong he should be punished.

Sisters are included here. Or moms. But yeah, I'm with you 100%. There is a scenario here where he should be commended, and also plenty where he should be doing time.

Assault on a family member would include blood relation, romantic relationship, or household member.

So if it is the daughter's bf, he would have to live with them unless this was incorrectly charged

I saw a podcast at the time with Goodman where he alluded to drinking issues.

Apologies, just hadn't read or heard anything about a daughters bf until now. Knowing his direct family consists of 4 women and his oldest daughter is only 20, I just found that a bit repulsive and would assume he has to get fired in addition to whatever legal consequences.

Not sure where you stand on retaliation against women, just had only saw the reports of an assault on a family member and knowing what his family consists of from when it was speculated that he could be a potential IU basketball head coaching candidate is what caused me to think he has to get fired.

My stance is you don't retaliate unless you believe your life is in danger. Instead you leave the crazy (been there in younger years).

Fair enough just hadn't heard about a bf until now. All the headline reports have been family member. Not sure on all the legal terminology as I don't have children, so unsure what would require a daughter's bf to be reported as a family member (same legal residence?). Far too early for me to really care to speculate just my immediate reaction was he probably should be fired. To your point, far too early to jump to any conclusion though

Yeah I'm also unsure on that and my initial thought was likely the same as yours...blood relative but then that wouldn't be a GF either.
