They won by 27 on the road. That can’t just be brushed under the rug

Still a great win by Michigan just not a top non conference win like it was considered before. Furman is a good team. They have beaten 2 of the 4 final four teams from last year on the road(Loyola). Michigan will still get credit for a Quad 1 win

Pretty impressive for Furman. I saw your post that West Virginia lost again too. Buffalo and Western Kentucky are their losses. Not a good start

Does the timing matter? Let's say Villanova finishes below .500 and in the bottom 3 of the Big East when it's all said and done. Does Michigan still get the same level of win even though it happened 3 games into the season and clearly they weren't as good as expected? Guess what I'm asking is can these tier wins be moved up and down a scale depending on the opponent's success/failure?

It kind of does just a bit. I mean clearly they are not playing good at all. Muchigan may be good but this takes some of the shine off that win imo. I would say same if it was iu

Definitely takes some shine off it. It would've taken some shine off it if Villanova had won in OT.

Definitely not a good start for preseason #13 team in the country

Key word there is preseason rankings. Hard to tell how a team will respond to losing key players from the year before. West Virginia was always going to have a hard time replacing Carter and Miles

While not excuse for Nova to lose to Furman losing 4 guys to NBA was going to be hard to replace

All depends on how their NET rating ends up. They could be bottom 3 of the league and if their net ranking is 75 or below that win will be a quad 1 win. At worst unless nova completely lays an egg a win at their building will be a quad 2 win(76-135)

That pretty clearly says that Villanova is overrated. It doesn’t devalue Michigan’s complete domination of them though

If you’re calling them overrated then the win gets diminished SOME. Maybe not a lot, and only time will
Tell how much, but it has to devalue it some..

Not a great start but not a disastrous start. Buffalo and Western Kentucky will have chances at at-large bids

Would love to see WKU get an at-large bid. Living near Bowling Green, KY, it’s a fun atmosphere, especially the last couple of seasons. They’ve got some decent non-con games (Washington (L), WVU (W), UCF tomorrow, @ Arkansas, St Mary’s and Wiscy at home). If they can get some of those and do well in C-USA, they definitely will vie for an at-large.
