FWIW, no Big ten team accepted an NIT invite.  Surprisingly, Auburn did.  I believe there were two other P5 teams that did — Wake Forest and California

Big 10 top teams have to play in the Crown before the NIT due to tv rights.   Top highest net teams that accept get auto bids.  Same with big east teams

Thanks, I had forgotten about the tie-in.

So the order of teams asked would be:

Indiana, Washington, Northwestern, USC, Minnesota, Oregon, Rutgers, Maryland, and Penn State.  IU has already reportedly said they would not play any postseason games (per the Indy Star).

Thanks to CBS for just giving us the brackets instead of milking it but really Bruce Pearl made it almost unwatchable.

Thank you to whoever leaked the bracket the year they tried to make it a 2 hour spectacular. Keeping the bracket secret till the last minute may be why the committee actually had contingencies for the Sunday results.

Agreed. He looked so uncomfortable when they had him talk about why Auburn did not get in. I used to semi like the guy, but he is awful on TV.
