We are all IU. Fans, or else we wouldn't be here. That being said, how do you normally approach upcoming seasons?

Agree WayneFleek---I think I am #3 most of the time.

But I admit I can jump into #1 and #2 mode when I think players are being unfairly criticized without even playing a game.  I also have a lot of #4 in me as I was on campus for 7 years and nearby another 3 years so I saw a lot of IU basketball---including the season on the brink and a national championship. I love and respect the IU tradition!

I have to say #2 and #3. This team lost several close games last year (UConn and Penn St come to mind), and I don't think the 17-15 record was an accurate representation of the team. This year's team adds more talent, plus they figure out how to win those close games.

#2, but tend to seem like #1 around here due to the overall negative haze since the disaster of last season. I like to think of myself as a ray of sunshine peaking out from behind the rain clouds  :biggrin:

Like most everyone, I'm approaching this season with a mix of realism and cautious optimism, but this isn't the overarching crux of my views on this season. I have no idea whether we'll be better or worse than last year, but what I am certain of (and this is the main point of my headspace going in to this year) is that this season will be more INTERESTING than last year.

Last year was a bad hangover after what SHOULD have been a championship season the year before. As others on here have said, last year wasn't so much a "bad" year as a "WTF" year - there wasn't any clear narrative as to why we were losing the games we were losing. We'd beat Wisconsin and then turn around and lose to Penn State. We weren't just losing games - we were both winning and losing with zero consistency. THAT more than anything is what I want to avoid. If we have an out-and-out terrible season, then at least we can learn from that and figure out what went wrong. It's hard to glean any lessons like that from last season because last season didn't make sense.

It's pretty clear that there was just a bad mojo at work last year, and the huge amounts of turnover that took place this offseason have hopefully weeded out the sources of that. There are a lot of new faces coming in and some are almost totally unknown quantities. I'm mostly just looking forward to see what they can do.

I approach the season as an optimist and become a realist after a few games. If the season is really bad, I end it by wanting to fire everyone, including my dog who has once again failed to reach his full potential ( the lazy S.O.B. ).

so darn funny and true. Love it!

I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming season.

  *  more shooters - check

  * better chemistry  - hopefully check

  * improved HMP and contributions inside from DD and Emmitt? - Please God.  Has there even been a player that the hopes and fears of a season rested on more than HMP?

Here is the thing for me about this season.  There are a lot of people on both sides of the issue around here who have made their mind up about what the future of the program's leadership should be.  Each side has their reasons, and I respect both.  This season is critical for me as to which side I come down on the next off season.
