No doubt about that, but as we've said MVP is a regular season award, if it wasn't Harden beat Russ in 5

Harden shot 2-11 with 10 points in an elimination game. I can't imagine the backlash LeBron would receive if he did that. Thus, IMO, Harden's out.

While Kawhi has played tremendously well this season, there's no denying the fact the spurs win without him. I believe his success is a translation of Popp's greatness more so than his powers (albeit I do like him a lot and his improvement over the years is amazing). Also, LeBron was the better statistical performer in damn near every category so IMO Kawhi is out.

Now Russ in the one I grapple with. I see why people love him and want to vote for him. What he did this season was incredible. However, with that being said, his team lost first round and he shot pretty poor percentages. I find it amazing he was able to essentially out hustle opponents each night, but his teammates allowed him to rack up the triple doubles and that there is my issue. The triple double is overhyped. There's not a huge difference between a 28-10-10 game and a 27-14-9 game...

So when it comes to LBJ, I think with his ability to turn it on whenever he wants, his playoff performance, his stats, his efficiency, and his teams lack of success without him, the MVP deserves to go to him - the best player in the world.

They vote before the playoffs, I think. I remember hearing a couple weeks ago that votes were already submitted.

If you are the most valuable player of the NBA, your team should be able to make it past the first round of the playoffs..regardless of your teams skills. I believe the mvp's team should be moderately successful and russ's team just wasn't. Even in the regular season

His team wasn't moderately successful in the regular season? Lmfao you realize the Cavs won 4 more games this season with Lebron, Kyrie, and Kevin Love. Let me guess. They had a great season. Yet Lebron in your head with inferior stats is the MVP this year. He is a great player, but he didn't win the MVP and he shouldn't have this year. It's obvious he was worried more about a postseason run than MVP. It's ok he didn't win it.

We obviously have different opinions about the nature of MVP. I think MVP deserves to go to the best player in the world, and it's a shame voter fatigue kicks in and keeps players like Jordan and LeBron from earning more MVP's.

LeBron should have five MVPs, imo. He should've won it the year they gave it to D Rose, but that was back when everyone hated him for The Decision. I think that hurt him with the voters. 

LeBron won't ever win another MVP and I'm fine with that. I still think he should because he's the greatest player in the world, but he doesn't care about the regular season so he's not going to waste his energy putting up MVP numbers. He'll coast through the regular season with 26/8/8 and then kick it up for the playoffs. He already has the MVPs, rings are all that's left for him to be in the goat discussion.

Yes we do have different opinions on MVP. MVP goes to player with best season. Lebron did not have that and will end up third this year. Not exactly a conspiracy. It doesn't go to the popular vote of those that feel he is the best player in the world.

 

Edit: even if it was close which it's not he missed 10% of the season. Voters also take that into consideration if the numbers are close which they aren't.

I get that LeBron is more efficient but Westbrook's ppg, rpg, and apg in 2016-2017 are all better than LeBron's best season.

Right. I don't necessarily agree that the regular season is not important, but he obviously gears up for the playoffs. He could be postseason MVP which is fine. But he wasn't during the regular season.

Yeah, I just don't get it. He could average a triple double but chooses not to. He could set the regular season wins record but chooses not to. He could be the best defender but chooses not to. He's an all time great but doesn't stack up in a few categories for me.

They should change the name of the award. Make it the Most Outstanding Player or something. The guy who is the most valuable to his team isn't always the guy that had the best season. I know that's kind of arguing semantics, but it's always bugged me.

Wow not sure how Harden isn't at least 1b

Because Kawhi puts up big numbers offensively too but the difference is Harden plays no defense and Kawhi is one of the best defenders in the game. People need to really start appreciating defense when it comes to this award.

Harden gets a bed rep on D for his highlights that are shown, he played harder on D this year and took a step up in leadership. Kawhi doesn't put up Harden offensive or rebounding numbers.
