So the Clippers circumvent the salary cap rules to sign Leonard away from Toronto but if the Raptors want to bring him back via trade not only do they need to give the Clippers assets they need to assume the Clippers’ penalty risks?

This makes sense assuming it references whatever penalties Kawhi faces for salary cap circumvention.  Like if he is suspended for x number of games that would happen when he’s a Raptor.

I don’t think the penalties the Clips may get transfer to Toronto.  Those stay with the Clippers.  If not that’s insane, but I doubt that’s the case.

Silver taking so long on this has created this complication.  Weak.  If I am the Raptors I’d want some guidance from the league on the range of potential penalties Kawhi faces.

Tom has a point, but he is also going for some cheap likes.

Pro sports is entertainment.  Fan engagement is important, even if it’s iffy analysis like this.  Someone posting their opinion for discussion is a good thing and part of the game.

This is gonna be a fascinating situation to watch. Trent Jr isn’t worth anywhere near that. Nowhere close. A low efficiency shooter and mediocre defender. Dude’s a dime a dozen player and they sign him to 64 mil fully guaranteed. Clearly shady and there’s already speculation that the League will investigate it for being that ridiculous. This should be fun.

The idea of Allen Crabbe was a God-tier 3 and D guy when guys like Demarre Carroll were owning that role. He unfortunately sucked out loud. Couple that with the new TV deal that kicked in around those few years of free agency (Timofey Mozgov and Omer Asik were paid salaries that rival the GDP of some decent sized countries) and you get some hilariously bad contracts.
