Hanner's plea agreement

Recommended Posts

It's over son. Get with the program!

Indiana forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea will be required to complete nearly a year on probation as a part of a plea agreement entered this week related to his February arrest for OWI.

According to court documents, Mosquera-Perea pled guilty to one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a charge stemming from his Feb. 14 arrest.

He will be required to complete 50 hours of community service, and his driver's license is suspended for 90 days. In addition to his license suspension, Mosquera-Perea was also required to cover various court costs and fees.

The agreement includes 60 days in jail, with all of that sentence suspended minus time already served.

Mosquera-Perea was arrested early on the morning of Feb. 14 after an IU Police Department officer pulled him over near campus. He was charged and suspended for two games after the incident.

A 6-9 junior forward, Mosquera-Perea is expected to be one of Indiana's primary post players this coming season.

So when do these 60 days need to be served?

Thanks for the clarification. Luckily I've never had to familiarize myself with the laws regarding DUI's

Nopraw. It's mostly just a scare tactic, a guaranteed sentence if you don't comply with something rather than having to rework the whole thing. They're actually not permitted in the federal system anymore because they're too easy to abuse. They're common in most non-violent state plea agreements (drugs, public intox, all that jazz).

Wow OWI is a lot stiffer in Indiana than here in Wisconsin.  First time offenders get a fine, and that is about it here.

Is it also true that in Wisconsin underage kids can drink if they are accompanied by their parents?

I thought i read that somewhere. If so that is an extremely different culture than the Hoosier state.

Pretty sure there's multiple states with that law. Texas comes to mind for some reason. But yeah, odd.

6 years of age and up as long as the parent is sitting with them at the bar

I just hope Hanner learns from this!  OWI is serious stuff----endangers not only the driver but everyone he encounters!  Could have been much worse and the Judge could have hammered him.  Hope this closes a disappointing and sad chapter of Indiana basketball from last year and that this year will be much better!  Time to grow up Hanner---both in maturity and basketball!  We need you this year---big fella!

DUI's/OWI's in the state of Indiana aren't much more than speeding ticket for first time offenders...

yes...you go to the drunk tank until you blow a .00 which can be several hours depending on how drunk you are...but...

get an attorney,

plea for a lesser charge,

go to alcohol awareness class,

pay fines,

kiss butt,

show remorse

don't repeat your offense, or any other offense for that matter...

and in a year's time, you are back to almost a clean slate, just like when your grandma fed you blackberry cobbler and homemade ice cream on the back porch...

Not saying two games is long enough, but I'm also pretty sure that wasn't his only punishment. I'm sure Crean had him doing stuff behind the scenes we'll never know about.

Yes---a few games as I recall---but some of us did not think it was long enough.

Not sure if Yogi and Stan will have game consequences....

Internal punishment can be a whole lot worse than sitting out games as well. Windsprints suck

Yes it is true.  In fact we were talking about it this weekend at hunting camp, as a couple of the kids that are 19 - 20 realized that if the law came by all of the adults would be in trouble. :)
