Lindy's Sports ranks IU preseason No. 28

Recommended Posts

Not sure if you guys saw this but I will take it (with a grain of salt)! Check out the link

Big ten being the 2nd strongest conference. Can't wait for the challenge!

And Yogi is a top 10 PG, no debate there in my eyes.

Ahhh, Finally...   A legitimate sports news source.

Not quite sure how legit it was. I love that they had IU at 28, but they had Yogi as the 20th best pg in the nation and Yogi on the 3rd all big ten team??? Doesn't add up to me. Yogi is easily a top 19 if not top 5 pg in the nation and is definitely 1st team all big ten.

You are talking Yogi's potential.  They are looking at stats and past results.

Some of it is team related, but Yogi has not come close to being one of the top 5 PGs in the country.

Last year stats wise, he was barely top 5 in the B1G.

If that's the case name the other pg's that have earned it.

In the B1G last year, I would have rated Craft, Appling, and  Mathieu ahead of Yogi.

This year in the B1G:  I think Jackson from UW  and Mathieu from MN will finish on the 1st and 2nd team, not sure which order.

If we are considered to be the 28th best team in the country at the end of the season (7 seed), I will be pleased with the progress from last year.  I think we could consider that a successful season for 2014-2015.

Now before anyone spazzes out and says I'm lowering the standards for the program by saying 28th is acceptable, let me be clear.  I am saying based on where we were last year, I'd be okay with that this year.  Obviously, we want to continue the upward trend from there.

When I posted this on the other thread, I thought 28 was actually pretty good. I just thought some of the other ranked teams were a little too high.

I appreciate you naming them and not getting snappy bc too many on here do that when you disagree with them. And here is my opinion on those 3: Mathieu wasn't and still isn't even the best pg on his team. Appling had a squad around him and still failed to live up to preseason hype. As for Craft, I'll agree I would take him as the best pg in the big ten last year.

So last year I would have taken Craft and Brust from Wisconsin bc they both got the job done but they are gone and even if they were back I'm taking Yogi in the top 5 in the nation this year bc he has shooters all around him now. Just my opinion but I feel strongly about it.

Also the other 4 I would list with Yogi would be Andrew Harrison, Tyus Jones, Marcus Paige, and TJ McConnell.

I'll take 5 Fred VanVleet's all day every day.

Getting Snappy doesn't do any good.  :)

I think Yogi has it in him to be an all american point guard, but again I think it is potential.  This year should really show it.  He needs to be the distributor not the primary scoring threat.

That occurred out of necessity and he fit the bill pretty well. He literally was our only consistent shooter and scorer last year. We can only hope Stan, Troy, Rob, and Blackmon unburden him the load of carrying the offense.

completely agree about necessity.  There seemed to be no other options last year.  I'm with you in hoping that others will be the primary offensive weapons this year, and Yogi can become the PG that he was billed to be.

Does he start? Or Cook? Or together? Need BlueDevil to get in on this.

OK--I am going to say it......I know Craft was the Big Ten poster boy and I loved his toughness and work ethic but he was OVERRATED!  As good as he was at times as a defender--he was poor offensively in the games I watched.  His offense consisted of driving to the hole---trying to draw contact to get a foul call---and then throwing up ridiculous off-balanced shots that rarely went in....and his outside shot was poor in the games I watched. OSU tried to make him the go to guy and it failed because he had a terrible time trying to get his own shots. Teams figured him out by the end of the year and it was not pretty.   I think Yogi was a better all around point last year and Yogi will be even better this year!

Bash away--but that's my opinion based on what I saw!
