Keith Smart Hired as Miami Heat Asst. Coach

Recommended Posts

Wish him the best of luck. I know he got put in a real bad position with the Sactown job, then you add in the Jimmer fans/nutjobs made it worse. And the Cavs team he coached was a lame duck situation, they weren't trying to win... unless you consider getting LBJ winning in which case, they did win

The @MiamiHEAT have officially hired Keith Smart as an assistant coach. Good to see him back in The Association. #iubb

I hope Keith is wearing his 1987 championship ring when he inevitably runs into Rony Seikaly in South Beach :D

With so many ex IU greats in the pro ranks in some form or another; it just shows how much the basketball community respects this program and this states players. Plus, the basketball IQ some have made fun, is very evident with all the Hoosiers either getting paid to play it or coach it. Basketball is Indiana and to say basketball IQ doesn't exist here is like saying basketball didn't grow up here either. Congrats fellow schoolmate Keith Smart!

Made fun? How is calling out the stupid arrogance of some of you, making fun. Also, you're ability to spin other people's words continues to be absolutely incredible. I never once said we lacked basketball IQ. Mentioned this in the other thread, which you conveniently abandoned. Again, you here to actually talk intelligently, or spin others words

Keith sure has come a long way----from flipping French Fries at a fast food place in New Orleans to a few years later hitting the game winning shot in New Orleans for IU's 5th NCAA Title----to NBA coaching......He has gotten to live out his dream!  Couldn't happen to a nicer person!

As I recall it was a thread regarding recruiting. We were discussing if we should sign an Indiana high school player not as highly rated vs some of these project centers that we always seem to sign. The term basketball IQ was discussed which some made fun of like it actually didn't exist. In fact it starts either by growing up in the state learning the game or by attending one of our colleges. I'm not sure where you think its spinning others words or that we are arrogant to think Indiana sets itself apart when it comes to basketball. Either way I wasn't referring to you specifically. What about that term gets your panties wadded up?

No one argued it didn't exist. The argument is that it doesn't exist solely in Indiana. Let's highlight this quote you just made: "In fact [Basketball IQ]  starts either by growing up in the state learning the game or by attending one of our colleges." You believe that basketball IQ is unique to Indiana, and cannot be found anywhere else, which is incorrect.

Cool, personal attacks.

Also, your post just exudes even more of the arrogance that I'm talking about from the fan base. Like #1CA pointed out with the quote:

"In fact it starts either by growing up in the state learning the game or by attending one of our colleges."

This is nothing but pure arrogance, makes even discussing basketball with some in the fan base unbearable because you guys seem to think you know so much more than everyone else just because you grew up in Indiana. If anything it is this blind arrogance that would lower the IQ of the fan base given some of you aren't even the slightest bit open minded to outside viewpoints

No Personal attacks, a lot of people think UK fans are arrogant. They back it up with titles; albeit they cheat. We also have titles and we dont. For us that expect more of them, well you can call it what you want. Lowering the IU IQ of the fan base goes hand in hand with lowered expectations I guess. When you're picked to finish 10 n the B1G, I guess it doesn't get any lower than that. Unless you think staying home in March is.

Way to go Keith!  Lived on the same floor as him at IU.   A great coach and an even better person!

Rebel, great to see another poster who has actually seen real Indiana basketball. Back then great teams were an expectation every year not one of let's build toward one. Remember getting upset when we got tossed in the first round. Now, we would just be happy to make it.

Indiana isn't the only state with basketball IQ though. North Carolina is another one. Here's a little history lesson for you. Where did theirs come from? A man by the name of Everette Case transformed the state of NC and basketball. Guess where he came from? You're right Indiana and from Anderson where yours truly was born. Read all about him...you can google it. He was the one and only responsible for cutting down the nets among many other traditions. Just think all of tobacco road including Duke, UNC and NC State can thank a former Hoosier for their basketball IQ. Plus anyone who has ever cut down a net me included. Now, do you want to discuss any other places of high basketball IQ? UCLA? Louisville with Denny Crum? Kansas? Where else? Denying our place in history is equally as annoying as our lowered expectations.

Unless I missed it KingPG never denied "our place in history" or whatever you said. He simply said Indiana isn't the only state with a high basketball IQ. It really seems like you're just trying to start an argument over nothing.

You may want to reread his post...stupid arrogance of some of you. Now who's trying to start an argument. I'm just stating the facts. But let's not let this get in the way of a disagreement on an Indiana basketball fan site.
