Mike Davis returns to Assembly Hall

Recommended Posts

I asked on twitter how many students would even know or remember Davis.

I'm 17 and I barely remember him. I don't remember a lot from that time other than Indiana not being very good and Bracey Wright.

with the exception of 2002 and 2013 (ok...maybe 2008...maybe)...

since 1994...IU just hasn't been that good or fun to watch...I'm absolutely amazed at the interest that there still is with IU basketball by folks younger than 30...it's astonishing really.

I was a Student during the 2002 title run with Davis. I was also there when Knight got ran off. I will not Booooo Davis.

It really wasn't his fault. He was not BIG enough to handle the pressures of an Indiana type program. He meant well. He did his best. He was overwhelmed and Indiana should have known this. Indiana made lots of errors during that time but it wasn't Davis' fault entirely.

Plus that 2002 title run was ridiculous. So much damn fun, and I give Davis some thanks for allowing me to experience that as a Student.

great post...

Davis made some comments when he reached the tourney last year that he was not ready to be coach at Indiana and feels that his career would have been much different if he had the chance to start his head coaching career at Southern and learn on the job outside the bright lights of a big time program.

I hope people don't boo the guy.  He was put into a situation that was nearly impossible to succeed in and ended up leading the program to its high point over the past two decades.

Why? Are you his wife? Curious, why do you ask? Is it because I post an opinion you disagree with? Is it because in your world, adults never say something as droll as "screw"? Or is it simply a combination of the two and you decided to chime in because you are on your cycle?

Because based on your responses, you are very immature. "Screw him", bringing up race defensively when no one brought it up, accusing me of being a woman, i.e. "not man enough" to boo a guy from 30 rows up simply because he didn't win enough games 10 years ago.

I'd say 90% of it is due to those kids parents rooting for IU. It's not what it used to be, but it's still relevant. Assembly Hall will draw anyone in

You are correct...my kids are aged 20, 18, 15, and 14 (yes I know what causes children)...and they love IU, but they also love to rib me when I get overly emotional about IU.

I certainly hope for the the sake of my sanity along with the other admins and mods of this site that this particular game IU wins easy... I might have to shut the site down for a couple days if Mike Davis comes into Assembly Hall and beats the Hoosiers...

I got chills just thinking about it lol

If Popovich was coaching Texas Southern, this site would crash if they beat IU.

When Davis was on the hot seat and didn't coach one game, I lost all respect for him. Plus blaming fans and his famous comment "help is on the way" never put him in a good light. Funny thing I use to make fun of his offense since it consisted mainly of dribble around and chuck up a Bracey Wright 3. Now, after how many years later we have a similar one except there's a screen at the top of the dribble dribble. I'm not laughing anymore.

I spent some time at one of his practices and he was a nice guy. The 2002 NCAA run was great. If Coverdale wasn't hurt with that ankle, which was black, I believe IU beats Maryland. However, you have to win at IU (Men's Basketball) to keep your job, no matter who you are.

I would not expect much of a reaction either way.

As a recent graduate, I completely agree. The students absolutely will not know him minus the one kid in each group who grew up worshipping the team. They'll boo him as soon as he argues with the ref, but not otherwise.
