Illinois State is coming off a 3-2 weekend at the LSU Tiger Classic, where they earned a pair of wins against Purdue and defeated Florida Atlanta. The Redbirds took No. 10 LSU and No. 23 McNeese State to extra innings, but ultimately fell in both contests. Batting .203 as a team, the Redbirds are led by a .322 average from Allison Spence, who has 19 hits and four runs. In the circle, Illinois State has used six different pitchers but have primarily relied on Sarah Finck (2.85 ERA, 6-4, 66.1 IP) and Morgan Day (3.12 ERA, 2-5, 42.2 IP).

Illinois State leads the all-time series, 21-17. The last time the two teams faced each other resulted in a 3-1 Redbird victory in 2011.

Oklahoma: The Sooners, who have won four national championships in their program history, are coming off back-to-back titles and went 61-9 in 2017. This season, Oklahoma sits at 14-2 and are winners of five straight. My daughter and I took in our first Hoosier softball game yesterday. We froze out butts off, but got to see a good game. Catcher Maddie Westmoreland hit an absolute bomb that the ump called foul. Pretty sure it was fair and curved around the foul pole. Amazed that the grounds crew was able to get all the snow off and the game in.

Yep. Northern team with grass. No point scheduling home games before when we do. I mean, we’re still getting snow!

Baseball used to do essentially the same thing before they got the new stadium and turf.
