Indiana Softball continued fall play on Sunday afternoon at Andy Mohr Field, sweeping a doubleheader against IUPUI, 8-3 and 10-1.

In the first game of the day, the Hoosiers used a seven-run sixth inning to come from behind and earn the victory. Sophomore Gabbi Jenkins turned in a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, bringing in two runs while scoring another. Seniors Rebecca Blitz and Rachel O'Malley each collected a pair of hits in the victory. Blitz added two RBI and two runs against the Jaguars.

The sixth-inning rally began as freshman Makayla Ferrari scored on a IUPUI fielding error to cut the Jaguar lead to 3-2. Another IUPUI error brought home junior Sarah Galovich before O'Malley singled to score sophomore Katie Lacefield and give IU its first lead of the day at 4-3. Blitz extended the advantage to 6-3 as she tripled to left, scoring O'Malley and freshman Taylor Lambert. Jenkins' single to center plated Blitz before she added the final Hoosier score by stealing home to make it 8-3.

Junior Tara Trainer collected 11 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work before redshirt junior Emily Kirk came in to pitch a final scoreless frame.

The second game of the day saw the offense stay hot as the Hoosiers plated 10 runs on 15 hits. Blitz and Lacefield each had three base knocks in the contest, with Lacefield adding two runs. Three Hoosiers homered in the victory – senior Taylor Uden, freshman Annika Baez and Ferrari.

Freshman Maddie Westmoreland got the scoring starting in the second, as she lined a double to bring in Lacefield and O'Malley. Baez knocked a two-out solo homer to left to push IU's lead to 3-1 in the third. A six-run fifth frame further put the game out of reach as back-to-back home runs by Uden and Ferrari made it 6-1. A two-run single by O'Malley and an RBI knock by senior Aimilia McDonough extended the advantage to 9-1. The final Hoosier score of the day came as Ferrari collected her second RBI on a sixth-inning single to left, plating Blitz.

In the circle, redshirt sophomore Josie Wood tossed 5.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out six. Sophomore Emily Goodin turned in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, surrendering one hit and collecting three strikeouts.

The Hoosiers continue fall play this Saturday as they travel to Indianapolis. Indiana will take on Butler and Heartland Community College, with both games being played at Butler.

I have decided to decommit from Indiana Univ. However, I am excited to announce my commitment to Purdue Univ. to continue my softball career

So, you're saying we got rid of the clap?......

IU drops its season opener to Boise St. 7-6.   BS started the game off in the top of the 1st with a grand slam off Josie Wood and then got 2 more runs in the 3rd and Wood was replaced by Emily Goodin.  IU loaded the bases in the bottom of the 3rd and Maddie Westmoreland hit a 2-run single.  In the bottom of the 5th, Taylor Uden hit a solo homer for IU and made the score 6-3.  Boise scored 1 in the top of the 6th and IU faced a 7-3 deficit in our last at bat.  Annika Baez led things off with a solo shot.  We got a couple of runners on and Gabbi Jenkins made it a 7-6 game with a 2-out 2-run scoring double but that was all the ladies could muster.

Wood only lasted 2 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 5 hits.  Goodin pitched the rest of the way giving up 4 hits and 1 run.  We scored 6 runs on 10 hits, left 12 on base and committed 2 errors.  Jenkins had 3 hits; Uden and Rebecca Blitz each had 2.
