OT - Robin Williams dead

[quote name="Naturalhoosier" post="77947" timestamp="1407805200"]We all have pain. Just because he was an entitled celebrity it makes the news. He took the cowards way out. I'm sorry to the family but I'll be damned if I feel sorry for his ass.

I'm not sure I understand why you feel like he was a coward. It's not like he committed a crime and somehow avoided punishment.

Goes to show you that depression is a serious thing if not treated. It can affect anyone. It's tragic, but hopefully this will help cast some light so deaths like this never happen to anyone.

It really is. As someone who works in this field as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor there is nothing tougher than doing a case review over a client you worked with who has decided to take his or her own life.

What's stupid is killing yourself and being selfish when 1. Your family is left to pick up the pieces and 2. People die all the time from things they can't control and I'm sure they'd love to still have the chance to live. Natty hit it on the nose he was a coward no ands, ifs, or buts about it.

Amazed at the stupidity. Wow.

I set myself up for that and I accept that.  I appreciate the candor as well.  Please know I mean no disrespect for Robin or his family. He's an extremely funny and extraordinarily talented man.

Without airing out my family's dirty laundry let's just say that I have a deep understanding of depression and its side effects.  Regardless, life is full of choices.  We make thousands of them everyday.  He made one.  Instead of facing his inner demons he took the easy way out.  He ran from them.  Despite the fact that he has three kids, a wife, business associates, etc.  It's selfish.  It's cowardice.  This is where I'm at.  I've explained myself and I will not back-down from opinion nor do I think I have changed any of yours.

With all of that being said, let's get back on topic and remember the talent that Robin Williams was.  I LOVED Good Morning Vietnam.  Probably my fave RW movie.

EDIT:  Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams.  My top 3 RW Movies...

I also have a deep understanding of depression and suicide, not only from working in this field but from personal family issues. I don't think a forum will ever be the place to really change people's opinions about these kind of subjects.

Lock this thread. If ever a thread needed to be locked it is this one. Keep your religious opinions at church. Not sure why we needed this thread anyway. Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean you need to make a religious crusade out of it. There are people on this board who have certainly known of someone who has committed suicide. And you guys look like assholes.

For  those of you calling Robin Williams a coward and taking the easy way out, have you ever been depressed? Have you felt the hurt that goes past the normal physical pain? Have you felt the pain of depression where it stabs your heart like a knife and you just want it to be over? If you have and you have survived, then I applaud you, if you have not then how can you judge anyone that is dealing with this illness and say that they are a coward when they decide they have had enough? They just want the pain to stop and yes, they do not realize the pain that they have caused their loved ones. But until you have felt that stabbing pain in your chest and have walked a mile in their shoes.......do not judge. It isn't our job anyway.

First off I'm the least religious person you'll ever meet. I had depression as a young child, my grandfather currently has the same thing as robin williams, my fathers cousin committed suicide, and my aunt is currently laying in a hospital bed from an attempted suicide so before you pop off at the mouth making assumptions check your facts before you make yourself look stupid. Not a bit of my comment is religious bs, it's all personal experience.

For those of you saying "how dare you call him a coward" and crap like that it's pretty simple. My opinion is from personal experience and I've seen what it does to families. The man was a great actor but I've got no respect for the person.
