Etherington much happier @ Butler

Recommended Posts

I always liked him and wish he got a bit more of a chance here. Hope he does well at his new home.

By the time the final buzzer sounded on his third season in college basketball, Austin Etherington knew it was time. Shortly thereafter, he gathered with his family. "I need a change," he told them.

One of the first calls was from another former Hoosier – current Butler assistant Michael Lewis. Bulldogs coach Brandon Miller followed up a day later. Etherington's recruitment led him to visit all of one school. He drove to Butler's campus mid-April, met with the coaching staff and told them he was in. A no-brainer, he called it.

"I'm much happier here," said Etherington, whose father, Bret, played for the Bulldogs in the late 1980s. "Now that it's finally over with, I don't have to think about the past anymore. I'm just excited to move on and excited for the season."

So for the people with close connections to the players, how did AE associate with the other guys? Was it good, or kind of his was like an outsider? Or was this he wasn't happy with his role type deal?

I have nothing against him as a person, he just wasn't a very good player. Really nothing more to it. Back when we signed him we were desperate for anyone with a pulse, and by the time he got here we had gotten back to a higher status as a program and I could tell right away he wasn't up to par talent wise with other IU players. Good kid, bad fit, best of luck to him with Butler (except when they play us).

Agreed - we moved on months ago. His departure will have 0 impact on the success/lack thereof of our 2014/2015 season.

Did he kick everyone's dog or what? Lol I mean he wasn't a world beater or my favorite player or anything, but everyone's attitude toward him makes it seem like he screwed us somehow. I hope he succeeds at Butler and I also hope we destroy them in Indy. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I share these thoughts.
But.... Crean likes certain guys shooting from certain places. He is a numbers freak. Maybe to his own detriment. He doesn't use the "eyeball" test, he uses stats and analytics for everything. Maybe Crean didn't like AE shooting the 3, based on practice experience or whatever. Crean limited Yogis role as a freshman, Noah's role as a freshman, etc.

So who knows what AE was being told to do.

AE had no rhythm or flow to his game. No confidence. I am not going to put all this on AE, but AE gets his share of blame too.

I don't think success at IU was in the cards for this kid. Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

The kid acts like it was a burden to play at IU. Why does anyone care if he's happy now? I surely don't. Did anyone care about Recker? Hell no. And Recker could actually play. AE was a mid major from day one and he proved it on the court. Sorry you couldn't pull the trigger at IU. I wish you so much luck Austin playing at a different school because you couldn't deal with better players getting more minutes. Does no one remember that his dad personally went to Bloomington to whine to Crean last year about playing time? Cry babies. Have fun at Butler, they're going to stink as bad as your outside shot.
