OT: UNC academic scandal continues...

Recommended Posts

Former Tar Heels star Rashad McCants told ESPN's Outside the Lines that he took fake classes, rarely went to his real classes, and had tutors write his term papers.

McCants told them the assistance helped keep him eligible during the 2004-05 national title season. He also discusses the "paper-class" system at North Carolina, which allowed students to simply write one term paper as opposed to attending an actual class. Moreover, McCants was on the Dean's List in the spring of 2005 (the championship season) despite not going to class.

According to McCants, coach Roy Williams knew about it. "I remained eligible to finish out and win the championship, his first championship, and everything was peaches and cream," McCants said.

He said he is sure Williams and the athletic department as a whole knew "100 percent" about the paper-class system.

something should be done though.. It's just straight cheating.  A fake education to win championships should be punished and there should be a group looking into if this is still going on there (and at Kentucky).

There's no way that Cauley-Stein's grades aren't being elevated dramatically so he could play..

From Kentucky Sports Radio Blog -
"Like every other college student in the United States of America, Willie Cauley-Stein wasn’t a big fan of the college aspect of college when he arrived on campus. It just wasn’t his thing.

“I hate school,” he told Coach Cal last fall."

Like every other college student in the U.S.??  'Tucky, pleaseeee.....

Did he say that last fall? I kept seeing that one of the main reasons he decided to come back was that he enjoyed college and liked going to class. Funny how that changed...

And going off that tangent, I thought it was funny how Calipari "met with" each of his potential early entrants during the last week of April and the only two who decided not to return were Randle (guaranteed top 5 pick) and Young (first rounder, horrible student).

Nice to see someone finally speak out... too bad he's revealing stuff from 2005. Doubt the NCAA could do anything even if they wanted to. BUT, it does hurt Williams and UNC quite a bit in the court of public opinion.

Man those Tar Heel fans in the scout board are in full denial mode ( was a graduate student there so I keep up from time to time).  Kind of sickens me how they keep pilling up the excuses.  Were we that bad during Sampson gate?

Some were but most people were preparing for dooms day and accepted our fate.

Pretty sad isn't it? Let's take a look:

IU - 2 players suspended because their guardian was a booster for his ex-wife buying alumni bumper stickers before these kids were born.

UNC - Creates fake classes and help their athletes cheat so they can play sports, but get no punishment.

I don't see an issue at all people, the NCAA got it right.......
